General Services Manager- Outdoor Misc.

Sylvamo’s Ticonderoga, NY Mill is located on the shores of Lake Champlain.  In operation since 1971, the mill produces high end printing and technical papers harvested from Adirondack and Vermont forests.  We employ over 600 dedicated employees focused on safety, environment, quality and production.

In this hands-on leadership role, the General Services Manager is responsible for managing the daily operations of our outdoor grounds services and landfill management.  The successful candidate will provide leadership to foster an injury free environment, provide a high level of support to internal mill customers, improve efficiency and lower operational costs. The position reports to the Mill Maintenance & Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

• Be a role model and champion for an injury-free work place and promote safety and excellence in all areas of influence.
• Management and oversight of the indoor group responsible for yard care, snow removal, and miscellaneous support functions.
• Management and oversight of the outdoor group responsible for landfill operations, snow removal, heavy equipment operation, and miscellaneous support functions.
• Oversight of the contract landfill garage mechanic.
• Required employee training and licensing including MSHA, DOT, and CDL.
• Operation of the landfill to all permit requirements.
• Inspections and repair of the mill’s roadways and railroads, including the annual repair job budget for these items.
• Execution and update of mill’s 5 year plan for roadways, railroads, and associated items.
• Responsible for preparing, monitoring and managing the area indirect budget and checkbook spending.
• Learn, understand, and follow local labor agreement.

Requirements

• Must be able and willing to complete landfill operator training and licensing.
• Minimum three (3) years leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Experience in the pulp and paper industry is preferred.
• Detailed knowledge of industrial safety procedures and regulations.
• Familiarity with environmental requirements around waste handling and landfill operations.
• Ability to track and measure performance utilizing standard methods/tools.
• Ability to lead in a high-performance team environment and get work done through others.
• Ability to collaborate with peers and work well work others.
• Strong computer skills including SAP and all Microsoft Office applications.
