Â
PURPOSE:Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Â Reports to the Kitchen Manager and is responsible for maintaining a clean, sanitary, and safe living and working environment in compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local regulations. Â Serves as a positive role model and resource for volunteers, promoting organizational standards for safety, cleanliness, and professionalism.

JOB FUNCTIONS:
Â
- Prepare, serve, and distribute meals in accordance with established menus, portion control requirements, dietary needs, sanitary regulations, safety standards, infection control practices, and organizational policies and procedures.
Â
- Ensure food service operations are carried out efficiently and effectively to meet the nutritional needs of individuals served, including special events, board meetings, and staff functions.
Â
- Assist with menu planning, ensuring meals provide essential daily nutritional requirements, and that food, supplies, and equipment are available and prepared according to meal service schedules.
Â
- Maintain inventory, proper storage, and rotation of food, supplies, linens, and housekeeping materials.
Â
- Clean, sanitize, and maintain all facility buildings, kitchens, dining areas, living spaces, public areas, and bathrooms to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment.
Â
- Operate, maintain, and properly store housekeeping and food service equipment, including carpet cleaning systems, buffers, scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, and kitchen equipment.
Â
- Wash, sanitize, and change linens as needed, including preparations for respite guests and facility operations.
Â
- Maintain adequate stock levels of paper products, hygiene supplies, and cleaning materials throughout all facility locations.
Â
- Monitor facility conditions and promptly report hazardous situations, equipment malfunctions, maintenance needs, or safety concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
Â
- Participate in the development and implementation of preventive maintenance and sanitation schedules for housekeeping and facility operations.
Â
- Provide guidance to staff regarding proper sanitation, food safety, housekeeping, and cleaning procedures.
Â
- Attend required education and in-service programs and serve as a presenter for departmental and organizational training sessions as assigned.
Â
- Perform additional duties as assigned to support food service, environmental services, facility operations, and the overall mission of the organization.
EDUCATION:
Â
- High School Graduate or equivalent.
Â
QUALIFICATIONS
Â
- Must complete the ServSafe Certification within the first two weeks of hire.
- Minimum of six (6) months in food service, dietary services, housekeeping, healthcare, hospitality, or a related environment preferred.
- Knowledge of dietary procedures, food preparation methods, portion control, and the characteristics of various food products.
- Ability to prepare and cook a variety of foods in large quantities while maintaining quality, sanitation, and safety standards.
- Knowledge of general cleaning practices, cleaning agents, and their proper and safe use.
- Experience operating and maintaining housekeeping equipment, including carpet cleaning systems, buffers / scrubbers, and vacuum cleaners preferred.
- Ability to maintain a clean, sanitary, and safe environment in compliance with applicable regulations and organizational standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively prioritize tasks.
- Ability to train and educate staff, clients, and volunteers on proper food safety, sanitation, and cleaning procedures.
- Valid driver's license required.

UNUSUAL WORKING CONDITIONS:
Â
- Must be available to work in emergency situations.
- Ability to work flexible shifts, days / hours when requested to by the Kitchen Manager.
- May be exposed to infectious diseases and behaviorally aggressive individuals.
- Must be available to work flexible shifts, days / hours when requested to by manager.
- Hazards typical of institution kitchens, such as hot cooking surfaces, sharp objects, electrical equipment, wet floors, etc.
- May handle potentially hazardous cleaning supplies (i.e., oven cleaners, etc.)

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
