Job DetailsJob Location: Cenweld of Toledo - Toledo, OH 43612Salary Range: $20.00 - $27.00 HourlyThe Commercial Vehicle Technician is responsible for both vehicle upfitting and mechanical service work on commercial trucks and vans. This role installs aftermarket equipment and accessories to meet customer specifications while also performing maintenance and repair work on vehicles returning from service or off-rent use. The technician ensures vehicles are safe, functional, and ready for redeployment or customer delivery, meeting company quality and safety standards. Key Responsibilities Vehicle Upfitting & Equipment Installation Install aftermarket equipment and accessories including bodies, racks, toolboxes, electrical components, lighting, and specialty equipment. Perform mechanical, electrical, and structural modifications according to work orders, drawings, and specifications. Read and interpret build sheets, wiring diagrams, and technical instructions. Verify proper installation, fit, function, and secure mounting of all equipment. Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (Off-Rent / Service Units) Perform routine maintenance including oil changes, fluid top-offs, filter replacement, and inspections. Diagnose and replace worn or damaged components such as brake pads, rotors, belts, hoses, and suspension parts. Repair or replace damaged body components, mounts, brackets, or accessories as needed. Identify additional maintenance or repair needs and communicate findings to supervisors. Troubleshooting & Diagnostics Troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic methods. Verify repairs and installations through functional testing and inspections. Support quality checks prior to vehicle release. Safety, Quality & Compliance Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and shop policies. Ensure work complies with OEM guidelines, company standards, and applicable regulations. Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas. Properly document work performed, parts used, and service findings. Teamwork & Continuous Improvement Collaborate with production, service, quality, and engineering teams. Assist with training or mentoring less-experienced technicians as needed. Identify improvement opportunities related to efficiency, safety, quality, or tools. Support continuous improvement initiatives and best practices. Support other areas of the shop as needed, including detailing, truck movement, facilities improvements, etc. QualificationsRequired Education: - High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training or certification in automotive technology is preferred. Required Experience: - Minimum of 2 years of experience in automotive repair and maintenance, preferably with trucks. - Experience working with diagnostic tools and equipment to identify and resolve mechanical issues. - Previous experience in a dealership or service center environment is advantageous. Required Skills and Abilities: - Proficient in the use of hand tools and power tools required for vehicle repair. - Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot and repair complex mechanical systems. - Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with team members and customers. - Ability to work independently and manage time effectively to meet service deadlines. - Knowledge of safety protocols and procedures in an automotive repair setting. - Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks that may require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
