Faculty-Coordinator Remedial Mathematics Initiative – Mercy College

Job Summary:

Under the direction of the Dean of Arts and Sciences, teaches remedial mathematics courses and coordinates, plans, organizes, and operates the remedial mathematics initiative.  Ensures remedial mathematics courses are adequately scheduled and staffed, assists with onboarding, training, supervising, and coordinating remedial mathematics faculty.  Coordinates with Student Support and Tutoring services to provide for optimal student learning outcomes.  Evaluates performance of adjunct remedial mathematics faculty and recommends continued employment.  Performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

As a 12-month Faculty position, teaches remedial mathematics, plans, organizes, and coordinates the operations of the remedial mathematics initiative.                                                                                                                           

  • Works with assigned Faculty to ensure educational delivery of learning outcomes of remedial mathematics courses. 
  • Teaches remedial mathematics courses and other mathematics courses as assigned and supervises adjunct faculty in teaching remedial mathematics courses.
  • Leads the management of the remedial mathematics initiative and collaborates with other staff in student mathematics placement testing and remedial mathematics placement practices.
  • Maintains data on effectiveness of the remedial mathematics initiative and explores changes/adjustments to operations using best practices and data-based decisions.
  • Oversees preparation of educational materials, standardization of remedial mathematics course design, LMS course setup, and supplemental learning materials for use with professional and peer tutoring.  Assists adjunct faculty to ensure standard syllabus and standard coordination of activities.
  • Evaluates adjunct faculty in remedial mathematics and recommends continued employment.

Education:

  • Bachelors in related field (required)
  • Mathematics or related field with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Mathematics at the Master’s level. (preferred)

Required Licensing & Certifications:

None

Experience:

  • Experience teaching remedial mathematics and working in the development and management of a remedial mathematics program or initiative. (required)
  • Three years of teaching remedial mathematics and working in the management of a remedial mathematics program or initiative. (preferred)

Skills & Abilities:
