The Arc of Ocean County is seeking dependable Overnight Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide awake overnight support to adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who live in residential homes throughout Ocean County. This role is ideal for someone who remains attentive during overnight hours, works confidently with limited supervision, and takes pride in providing thoughtful, person-centered support.
Your responsibilities extend from nighttime supervision through morning preparation. By responding to individual needs, monitoring well-being, maintaining the home, documenting important information, and communicating with the next shift, you'll help keep residential services safe, consistent, and responsive around the clock.
Position DetailsEmployment Type: Full-Time and Part-Time Opportunities Available
Shift: Awake Overnight | 11:00 PM – 9:00 AM
Location: Ocean County, New Jersey
Starting Pay: $20.70 per hour
Opportunity to Earn: Up to $24.70 per hour through applicable shift differentials and overtime opportunities
Weekend Availability Required
Important: Overnight staff are required to remain awake and actively engaged throughout the entire shift.
Your Role in the HomeOvernight Safety & Wellness- Maintain attentive supervision throughout the overnight shift to promote the safety, health, and well-being of individuals receiving services.
- Perform required hourly status checks and other overnight monitoring duties.
- Act quickly and professionally when emergencies, medical concerns, or unexpected circumstances arise.
- Recognize and report safety, maintenance, and environmental issues within the residence.
- Respond to overnight needs while protecting each individual's privacy, dignity, and personal choices.
- Follow individualized behavioral, dietary, medical, mobility, and support plans.
- Promote independence by adapting support to the needs and preferences of each individual.
- Assist individuals in pursuing their personal goals while helping maintain a respectful, supportive home environment.
- Administer medications according to agency policies and individualized care plans.
- Support individuals as they transition into their morning routines, including personal care, hygiene, dressing, and preparation for daily activities.
- Assist with activities of daily living, including meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping, and other household responsibilities as needed.
- Help create an orderly and welcoming environment that supports a successful start to the day.
- Accurately complete communication logs, medication records, daily documentation, and incident reports within required timeframes.
- Share relevant overnight information with incoming staff so individuals receive consistent care from one shift to the next.
- Manage responsibilities independently while maintaining communication and coordination with supervisors and team members.
Overnight DSPs provide an important layer of continuity within Residential Services. Your attentiveness during the hours when most people are sleeping helps individuals feel secure in their homes and ensures their needs remain a priority throughout the night. The information, care, and preparation you provide also help the incoming team begin the morning ready to support each individual effectively.

- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Valid New Jersey driver's license in good standing with no more than five (5) motor vehicle points.
- Ability to work independently while exercising sound judgment during emergency situations.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the position, including lifting or assisting with up to 50 pounds, providing mobility support, and completing household responsibilities.
- Strong communication, reliability, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Previous experience supporting individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities preferred.
