Job Summary: The Pest Control Technician is responsible for ensuring that all pest control activities across our facilities are carried out effectively and efficiently. This includes managing rodent, fly, insect, bird, and weed control, as well as performing fumigation procedures, while adhering to strict safety and biosecurity protocols. The role involves regular monitoring, inspections, treatment application, and documentation to maintain a pest-free environment and ensure compliance with company standards. Duties/Responsibilities: Rodent Control: Monitor, inspect, and service rodent traps and bait stations in accordance with the site’s Integrated Pest Management (IPM) plan. Log findings and monitor bait levels at the end of each workday. Identify areas needing corrective action and coordinate follow-up to implement corrective measures. Fly Control/Prevention: Apply sprays to the front and back of Lay Houses twice a week. Monitor and spray break areas, office areas, and the Breaker Plant daily depending on fly activity levels. Spray manure pits in high-rise houses every 6 weeks after manure removal. Apply NEPOREX to sawdust to break the fly life cycle. Monitor and service fly bait stations weekly. Inspect Bug Lights in barns bi-weekly. Use scatter bait and perform monthly fly indexing, implementing corrective actions when necessary. Insect Control/Prevention: Spray the exterior of processing plants, dry storage, and liquid egg facilities monthly. Apply insecticides inside dry storage every 3 months. Treat Lay Houses for spiders with two applications: immediately after hens are removed and after cleaning procedures are completed, to eliminate and prevent spider infestations. Weed Control: Maintain a weed-free environment around the facility to prevent pest harboring. Choose and apply the appropriate weed control methods, such as herbicides, weed whackers, or tractor-mounted attachments. Bird Control: Immediately report any bird sightings inside facilities to the Pest Control Department. Set up nets or use other methods to safely remove birds from facilities. Remove nests and install deterrents to prevent future bird intrusion. Fumigation: Follow all safety protocols during fumigation procedures, ensuring that buildings are properly sealed, and safety signage is in place. Conduct fogging after cleaning procedures in Lay Houses, ensuring that all personnel are cleared of the area. Use disinfectants and viruses during fumigation to ensure a clean environment. Safety and Biosecurity Compliance: Comply with all company safety policies and biosecurity protocols. Report any safety concerns or biosecurity issues immediately to the manager or appropriate personnel.  Required Skills/Abilities: Previous pest control, agricultural, or related experience preferred. Strong attention to detail for monitoring pest activity and implementing corrective actions. Basic knowledge of pest biology and behavior, particularly rodents, flies, insects, and birds. Good communication skills, both verbal and written, for documentation and reporting. Ability to work independently and efficiently.  Education/Experience: High school diploma or equivalent required. Pest control certification or related experience is a plus. Familiarity with monitoring and servicing pest control systems, including rodent traps, bait stations, and bug lights, is preferred. Knowledge of safe handling and application of pesticides, herbicides, and fumigation procedures is an advantage. Experience with mechanical equipment, such as weed control tools (e.g., tractors or weed whackers), is a plus.  Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and perform physically demanding tasks. Ability to work in various environmental conditions (outdoors and inside facilities). Stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods. Work in confined spaces and varying environmental conditions, including heat, humidity, and dust. Visual and manual ability to inspect and operate pest control equipment. Tolerate exposure to odors, chemicals, and fumigation substances with protective gear.
