Native American (NA) cultural advisor that oversees the cultural, spiritual, and traditional teachings for recovery. You will help create a future as a cultural advisor that includes our stories, language, and culture, keeping the promise of our elders and ancestors to continue those connections to reclaim the past traditions, live in the present, and look towards the future through our traditions.

 

 Job Tasks, Duties, and Responsibilities   

  • Oversees clients experience and education in Native American Traditions and Spiritual Awareness  
  • Meets with all new clients within the first week of their treatment.   
  • Coordinates with program directors and supervisors to ensure any viable information is passed along.  
  • Act as a subject matter experts on matters pertaining to Indigenous, tribal, and Native American topics and issues in decision making within each program.
  • As needed, contribute to creative ideas to course, program, and consultation to projects, policy, regarding NA needs and healing. 
  • Assists in passing off Red Road to Wellbriety 12-steps.   
  • Must maintain healthy boundaries and follow ethical practices with clients.  
  • Track clients progress utilizing Electronic Medical Records software.  
  • Provides Nat-Su employees with education on Native American culture, teachings, history, and spirituality.
  • Must be able to hold and run a Nat-Su sweat lodge.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience   

  • Familiar with a variety of Native American Customs and Traditions   
  • Knowledgeable in the 12 steps (Red Road to Wellbriety preferred)   
  • Familiar with the Great Basin 
  • Understanding of historical trauma and its impact on Native American communities. 

Key Skills and Competencies   

  • Proficient in PC skills including electronic records systems and Microsoft Office   
  • Lived experience and knowledge as an Elder among the Native American population.
  • Deep understanding of Native American cultures, including protocols, languages, traditions, and the diversity among Tribal nations.  
  • Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to be open and receive directions and feedback. 

Position Status: Full-Time

Physical Requirements   

To comply with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 the essential physical, mental, and environmental requirements. Candidates must be able to successfully perform all functions of their job with minimal supervision.   

 

This position is subject to Native American/Alaskan Native preference.
