The Facilities Maintenance Technician I is responsible for supporting the daily maintenance, upkeep, safety, and appearance of company facilities and grounds. This position performs routine maintenance and minor repairs, seasonal groundskeeping, preventative maintenance, and responds to assigned work orders to ensure facilities remain safe, functional, and well maintained. The technician will identify and report facility concerns, maintain tools and work areas, follow established safety procedures, and assist higher-level maintenance technicians, with repairs, installations, troubleshooting, and facility projects.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for maintaining all Nat-Su-owned facilities and properties to ensure they are safe, functional, clean, and well maintained.
- Perform seasonal property maintenance, including landscaping, gardening, snow removal, salting walkways, and other weather-related facility needs.
- Follow all company safety procedures, properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE), and immediately report unsafe conditions or potential hazards.
- Perform routine facility maintenance and minor repairs, including replacing light bulbs, unclogging drains, painting, and other general upkeep.
- Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas and storage spaces, ensuring tools, equipment, supplies, and machinery are properly stored and maintained.
- Respond promptly to assigned work orders and maintenance requests and keep the supervisor or manager informed of progress, delays, or concerns.
- Assist higher-level maintenance technicians, vendors, and contractors with troubleshooting, repairs, installations, preventative maintenance, and facility improvement projects.
- Identify and communicate facility or equipment concerns that may result in operational interruptions, safety concerns, or additional repairs.
- Assist with routine inspections of facilities and grounds to identify maintenance needs and ensure issues are addressed in a timely manner.
- Properly use and care for company tools, equipment, machinery, and maintenance supplies.
- Maintain professional and courteous communication with employees, leadership, vendors, contractors, and others while performing assigned duties.
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Six months to one year of maintenance, facilities, construction, or related experience preferred but not required.
- Basic knowledge of general maintenance practices and willingness to learn new skills and procedures.
- Comfortable using common hand tools, power tools, and basic maintenance equipment safely and appropriately.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with team members, supervisors, vendors, and other departments.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify maintenance, safety, and facility concerns.
- Dependable, self-motivated, and able to follow instructions and complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively as part of a facilities maintenance team.
- Willingness to learn, take direction, and develop additional maintenance and technical skills.
- Manual dexterity and physical stamina necessary to perform routine maintenance, groundskeeping, and other physically demanding job duties.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and adapt to changing maintenance and operational needs.
Physical Requirements
To comply with the Rehabilitation Act of 1973's essential physical, mental, and environmental requirements, employees must be able to successfully perform all functions of their job with minimal supervision.
This position is subject to Native American/Alaskan Native preference.
Schedule: Full-Time M-F, 40 hours a week. (Hours may vary with additional work hours as needed.)
