A Brief Overview
PRN Faculty support for the School of Nursing, hourly. This person would have experience in nursing, education of nurses and/or students and expertise in clinical settings. Their role could be helping in the classroom with grading, proctoring and lecturing or in supervision of students in clinical settings, simulation or skills labs as needed. The role could include preparation and tear down in the simulation/lab setting. If assisting the faculty in the classroom they would not have lead responsibilities for courses. They would fill in as needed in case of illnesses, leave of absences, or identified simulation or clinical times. The primary faculty will complete and disseminate student evaluation with input from the PRN Faculty Support member of the team.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree of Science in Nursing (BSN) Required


Experience Qualifications

  • 2 years Working with students as an adjunct or in clinical/staff education. Required
  • 2 years Working at bedside as a nurse or certification in area of nursing expertise. Required

  • Ability to meet criteria for advancement within 6 years (Required proficiency)
  • Proven or presumed teaching ability. (Required proficiency)
  • Demonstrates potential for development of scholarship. (Required proficiency)
  • Participates in academic, professional and/or community organizations. (Required proficiency)


Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse - KSBN Current unencumbered license. Certification in clinical specialty, as applicable is preferred. Required
  • Certified Nurse Educator - NLN - Magnet Certification in clinical specialty, as applicable. Preferred


What you will do

  • 1. Supports/assists in simulation including programing the simulators for responses, role-playing applications, skills training, props placement, and moulage set-up before and after simulations to create a virtual healthcare setting.
  • 2. Assist with inventory and maintenance of supplies and equipment as needed for simulation and skills labs.
  • 3. Assist faculty by providing lectures in areas of expertise, assisting with grading, test proctoring and monitoring of the classroom interactions.
  • 4. Understand the role of the nurse in clinical setting and provide supervision for up to 10 students in clinical settings, including pre-clinical/post-clinical and critical thinking and clinical judgement assessments by questioning students.
  • 5. Strong communication skills with student and lead faculty.
  • 6. Adaptability to adjust to new requests and needs as they arise.
  • 1. Promotes collegiality and interdisciplinary approaches in education and practice.
  • 2. Abides by SVH policies and procedures
  • 3. Follows all Baker University policies outlined in the student catalog and handbook.
  • 4. Communicates with the Assistant Dean if there are any concerns regarding roles and responsibilities.
  • 5. Understands the Board of Nursing regulations for supervision of students.


Travel Requirements

  • 5% If they are covering a clinical setting with students outside the hospital setting, they would need to travel to the site. In Capstone experiences they would travel to where ever the students are assigned.
