Fish Technician II

(2) Two Positions

Yakima Klickitat Fisheries Project (YKFP)

Department of Natural Resources

Hourly Wage: $15.74-$17.72/Regular/Full-Time

Location: Toppenish

 

Is responsible to reside for 5 days a week and work at one of three acclimation sites located in the upper Yakima River Basin. Work with Cle Elum hatchery personnel on various activities to maintain the hatchery and its acclimation sites. Work with hatchery crew to spawn, incubate, rear and release up to 800k Spring Chinook annually. This work is performed 365 days a year and may be required to work weekends, nights and holidays. Also, assist other field crews with trap operations, fish tagging/marking, spawning ground surveys and predation work.

 

 

Examples of Work Performed:

Will be responsible for maintaining a juvenile fish acclimation site, this will include but not limited to; preparing feed and feeding fish, maintaining adequate water flow, take and record daily water reading, cleaning site, snow removal and overall up keep of the facility.

Also, assist other YKFP fish crews with other tasks in the Yakima River basin.

Has strong work habits and is self-motivated.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of understanding salmonid life history patterns and Yakima fish species identification.

Knowledge of fish culture techniques.

Ability to develop effective working relationships with co-workers, other tribal employees, tribal members, other agencies and the general public.

Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Ability to work outside in all kinds of weather conditions.

Ability to perform physical labor.

 

Minimum Requirements:

High School Diploma or equivalent is required

One year of experience as a Fish Technician I or equivalent level in natural resources fieldwork required.

Required to pass a pre-employment drug test.

Must possess a valid Washington State Driver's License with the ability to obtain a Yakama Tribal Driver's permit.

Yakama enrolled preference, but all qualified applicants are encouraged to apply.
