Job Summary
The Inventory Specialist II is a senior-level individual contributor responsible for the accuracy, organization, and continuous improvement of BCI's inventory operations. This role goes beyond day-to-day counting and record-keeping — the Inventory Specialist II serves as a subject matter expert in inventory control, takes ownership of discrepancy resolution, and helps develop and refine inventory procedures. Working under the general supervision of the Supply Chain and Operations Managers, this position provides guidance to junior inventory staff and collaborates cross-functionally with Purchasing, Production, and Planning to ensure seamless material flow in a high-precision electronics manufacturing environment.

This is a hands-on position.  This is NOT a remote or hybrid position.

Key Responsibilities
Inventory Control & Accuracy
  • Lead and execute the annual cycle count schedule, including planning, coordination, and year-end physical inventory audits.
  • Investigate, analyze, and resolve complex inventory variances between system records and physical counts; document root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy across multiple storage locations; perform regular bin audits and location verification.
  • Perform and oversee kitting operations for production projects, ensuring BOM accuracy and on-time kit delivery to the production floor.
  • Inspect incoming shipments for damage or defects; document discrepancies and coordinate with Purchasing and suppliers for resolution.
  • Sort, count, package, label, and log inventory in accordance with established BCI procedures.

ERP & Reporting
  • Serve as a power user for BCI's MRP Sage system; record daily inventory transactions accurately and link them to the appropriate departments.
  • Prepare and distribute reports including inventory balance, kit completeness, shortage alerts, and variance summaries.
  • Identify data entry errors or systemic issues within the ERP and escalate or correct them appropriately.
  • Build and maintain Excel-based tracking tools and dashboards to support inventory visibility and KPI reporting.
Process Improvement & Cross-functional Collaboration
  • Identify opportunities to improve inventory accuracy, cycle count efficiency, and material flow; recommend and help implement process changes.
  • Work closely with Production, Planning, and Purchasing to anticipate material demand and prevent line stoppages.
  • Assist in developing, updating, and training staff on inventory standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Provide guidance and informal mentorship to Inventory Specialist I staff; assist with onboarding and training of new team members.
  • Support Supply Chain and Operations Managers with special projects and ad hoc inventory initiatives.
  • Receive inbound material into the system of record and quality database. Issue material as needed and send receipt notifications as required. Maintain the Receiving Log daily.
  • Back up for shipping and receiving department
  • Compare identifying information and counts, weigh or measure incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against Bills of Lading, invoices, Purchase Orders, or other records. Attention to detail is critical.
  • Generate required shipping and receiving documentation, including Packing Lists, Receiving Reports, and Commercial Invoices.
  • Organize finished goods and perform physical counts as needed.
  • Support shipping using UPS, USPS, FedEx, DHL, and LTL carriers as needed.
  • Coordinate receiving, identification, inventory, disposition, and shipment of material.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent required; associate's degree or relevant technical coursework preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a warehouse, inventory control, or manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or coordinating cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Prior experience in an electronics manufacturing or production environment strongly preferred.
  • Hands-on experience with an ERP or MRP system required; experience with Sage ERP is a strong plus.
  • Proven track record of identifying and resolving inventory discrepancies independently.

Skills & Abilities
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, conditional formatting, basic formulas); proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook.
  • Experience using ERP systems such as Sage or Netsuite
  • Strong ability to read and interpret manufacturing kit lists, BOMs, and work orders.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and high standards for data accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Effective communicator — able to clearly convey inventory status and discrepancies to supervisors and cross-functional teams.
  • Collaborative team player with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment, working extended hours (as needed).
  • Strong self-motivation and attitude for personal career growth, willingness to self-learn, and work in new technology domains
Physical Job Requirements
The employee in the position will be required to occasionally move throughout the facilities, including climbing stairs, when necessary.  Occasional bending and reaching in an office environment, including opening and closing file cabinets drawers with light grasping. Type on a standard keyboard (laptop or desktop). Use standard computer display screens.  Use standard push-button phones and must speak clearly and be understood by others.  Sit or stand in a standard upright position for a minimum of one hour, but up to 12 hours a day. Be able to lift and carry weight unassisted not exceeding 50 lbs.
