GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY 

 

The Finance & Accounting Manager is responsible for leading all financial accounting, reporting, compliance, budgeting, and financial analysis functions for JTB Hawaii group companies. This position ensures the integrity of financial information, supports strategic business decision-making, manages financial risks, maintains regulatory compliance, and provides leadership and development for the Finance & Accounting team while serving as a key business partner to management and corporate Americas regional headquarters. 

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Accounting Management 

  • Lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end closing activities. 

  • Oversee journal entries, reconciliations, fixed assets, intercompany transactions and account analysis. 

  • Ensure compliance with U.S. GAAP, company policies and regulatory requirements. 

  • Coordinate external audits, tax filings and statutory reporting. 

  • Maintain effective internal controls and accounting procedures.

Financial Analysis & Reporting 

  • Prepare and review financial statements and management reports. 

  • Analyze variances, profitability, fluctuation. 

  • Support forecasts and financial models to support decision making. 

  • Present/Explain financial results and recommendations to Hawaii management and JTB Americas. 

  • Provide insights to improve business performance and cost management. 

  • Oversee cash management activities across JTB Hawaii group companies, including cash forecasting, fund transfers, banking relationships, and liquidity planning.

Business Strategy & Development 

  • Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes. 

  • Support long-term business planning and resource allocation decisions. 

  • Evaluate investments, contracts, operational initiatives, and growth opportunities. 

  • Identify financial risks and recommend mitigation strategies. 

  • Partner with business leaders to improve operational efficiency and profitability.

Team Leadership & People Management 

  • Lead, coach and develop Finance & Accounting staff. 

  • Conduct performance evaluations and employee development planning. 

  • Manage hiring, onboarding and succession planning activities. 

  • Set departmental goals and monitor achievement of objectives. 

  • Promote accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES 

 

The Manager is responsible for overseeing, training, and developing staff while upholding and consistently enforcing company policies and procedures. This role includes interviewing, selecting, and hiring qualified employees; delegating work effectively; and proactively managing and resolving conflicts. Additional responsibilities may include reviewing and approving timesheets, monitoring overtime to ensure compliance and cost control, administering disciplinary action in accordance with company guidelines, conducting performance evaluations, establishing individual and departmental goals, and supporting employee development and succession planning. 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience 

 

  • Bachelor's degree (B.A.) in a related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.  

  • Possesses more than 5-7 years of experience in finance/accounting.  

  • 3+ years of experience in a managerial capacity. 

 

Skills and Knowledge  

  • High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities with accuracy. 

  • Solid understanding of business and organizational planning principles, including strategic planning, resource allocation, leadership practices, and operational execution. 

  • Proven ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively within a team environment. 

  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build productive working relationships. 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in Japanese and Englishverbally and in writing. 

  • Strong analytical, problem solving skills, decision making skills and ability to adapt to changing demands. 

  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including conflict resolution and people management skills. 

  • Proficiency with standard office software (MS Office 365 applications), computer systems, and equipment. 

  • Working knowledge of JTB in-house systems. 

  • Knowledge of Hawaii tourism, Japanese tour characteristics, culture and customs is preferred.

Working Hours:  

  • Normal business hours between 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.(Hawaii Time)

Working Environment:  

  • Air conditioned office or remote workplace.  

  • Work can be performed remotely but may be required to report to Honolulu or Torrance Office as required. 

  • Domestic travel by air is required in a necessary case. 

  • Subject to varying atmospheric conditions, up to and including, noise, pollution, dust, fumes and vehicle exhaust.     

     

 

Equipment Used 

  • General office equipment including phones, fax, copier, personal computer or laptop, scanner, etc.  

  • Software includes the use of Windows operating system, MS Office (Outlook, Teams, Excel, Word, etc), Oracle ERP and Central Command. 

  • Proprietary in-house computer applications and systems may be used in some departments.
