Mon - Fri: 8 - 5 pm (flexible schedule)

What you bring to SBHG (qualifications): 

Education 

  • Master's degree in a Mental Health field (Required)

Experience 

  • One (1) year of experience in the mental health field, and direct service experience with severely emotionally disturbed children, adolescents, adults, and families (Required)

  • Experience with high-risk populations. (Required)

  • Experience with children, adolescents, and adults with dual diagnosis in residential or outpatient settings. (Required)

Licensure: 

  • MHS II: Registered with CA BBS as an AMFT, ACSW or APCC.  

  • MHS III: Licensed in California as a LMFT, LCSW or LPCC.

  • Valid California Driver's License (Required)

How you will make a difference (job overview): 

This position has primary responsibility for mental health services and case management services to adolescents and their families. The Mental Health Specialist (MHS) provides mental health services (including assessment and evaluation) and other services to clients referred to the TEAMMATES programs. Provides therapeutic services, including but not limited to individual and family therapy, collaterals, crisis intervention skill building, and treatment planning. The Mental Health Specialist is an active contributor in multidisciplinary teams and will assist various team members as needed to provide services to families or assist with case management or developing plans for the family. He/she acts as a liaison with external agencies and functions on teams with other clinical & non-clinical staff. The Mental Health Specialist will attend various client and family meetings, such as Child & Family Team (CFT) meetings, psychoeducation groups, plan development meetings, as well as various external and community meetings. May be requested to obtain additional training and certifications as needed.

  • ​​Population Served: Children, Youth, Adults, and Families battling trauma, mental illness, neglect, or substance abuse | Capacity: 40,000+ individuals served annually across ~60 program sites statewide 

  • Facility & Setting: Multidisciplinary program sites (~60 locations across California, including outpatient, residential, and community-based settings) 

  • Clinical Services: Trauma-informed care, mental health treatment, and substance abuse interventions 

  • Length of Stay: Varies by specific program track and setting (ranging from acute/short-term to ongoing outpatient support) 

  • Skills & Transition: 

    Strengths-based empowerment, resilience building, and long-term recovery/re-integration support 

    Family support, skill development, advocacy, and comprehensive community resources
