What you bring to SBHG (qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work field
  • Active California certification as a Certified Recreation Therapist or National Certification as a Certified Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or Registered California Board of Occupational Therapist License required

Professional Experience:

  • Clinical: One (1) year experience with seriously emotionally disturbed adolescents in an inpatient or outpatient health care setting preferred (internship and/or practicum time may be substituted)

How you will make a difference (job overview):

The Recreation/Occupational therapist is the treatment team member who is responsible for providing recreational or occupational services to adolescent clients within the Rehabilitation Program.  These services are provided through individualized and/or group activities to restore, establish and maintain optimum level of social, vocational and physical functioning which include social activities involving group participation, indoor and outdoor recreational activities and exercises. Develops, implements, and supervises the recreation/activities program that includes the following but is not limited to social activities, indoor and outdoor activities, exercise activities, opportunities for client involvement for planning and implementation of the recreation activities. Develop an individualized schedule of therapeutic groups with and for each client and assist them in determining and taking the steps necessary to achieve the treatment goals and self-directed recovery. Conduct a written rehabilitation assessment of new clients utilizing verbal, written, auditory and visual communication. Lead or co-lead therapeutic groups with treatment team staff.  Document and report progress of client outcomes in therapeutic programs including group activities and individualized goal planning.  Provide work direction to Rehab Aides, as needed. Notifies the treatment team of recommendations and plans for implementation regarding recreation/activities.   • Population Served: A comprehensive mental health in patient residential facility for adolescents; Statewide service for up to 60 adolescents (ages 12–17) experiencing severe mental health challenges.
  • Facility & Setting: 24/7 locked, highly secure inpatient residential campus operating with the highest standards of dignity and care since 1988.
  • Programs: Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF), Community Treatment Facility (CTF), and an on-site Non-Public High School (SBHS).
  • Clinical Services: Multidisciplinary mental health services, Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS), and Intensive Day Treatment Program.
