What you bring to SBHG (Qualifications):

  • Master’s degree in psychology, social work, childcare counseling, or development from an accredited college or university required

Experience:

  • One (1) year direct service experience with severely emotionally disturbed adolescents in an inpatient or outpatient health care setting (internship and/or practicum time may be substituted)

Licensure:

  • Must be a registered intern and eligible to take appropriate licensure within State mandated time limit.  Three (3) unsuccessful attempts at licensure will be permitted

How you will make a difference (job overview):

Primary Therapist, under the supervision of the Director of Treatment Services provides general casework services, psychotherapy and therapeutic groups/activities to assigned residents and their families. Will assist in preparing Treatment plans, writing weekly progress and discharge summaries, Quarterly reports, HS 231’s and any court reports. Coordinates treatment within SVAC and with other agencies such as Child Protective Services, Juvenile Probation Department and County Department of Mental Health including interdepartmental consultation as needed.  Prepares a comprehensive written psychosocial evaluation and assessment on assigned adolescents.  Responsible for permanency planning including assessing resident’s readiness for discharge and coordination planning. Will make appropriate referrals for placement, case management, and aftercare services; coordinates benefits with Business Office personnel and maintains knowledge of community resources.  Communicates with residents their legal status and rights under applicable law and acknowledges in writing their understanding of same. Provides consultation as needed with families and the Case Manager on issues regarding admission, discharge, and after-care plans. Prepares verbal reports regarding adolescent’s participation and progress in the program and makes written documentation of the same in the electronic medical record system.

  • Population Served: A comprehensive mental health in patient residential facility for adolescents; Statewide service for up to 60 adolescents (ages 12–17) experiencing severe mental health challenges.

  • Facility & Setting: 24/7 locked, highly secure inpatient residential campus operating with the highest standards of dignity and care since 1988.

  • Programs: Psychiatric Health Facility (PHF), Community Treatment Facility (CTF), and an on-site Non-Public High School (SBHS).

  • Clinical Services: Multidisciplinary mental health services, Therapeutic Behavioral Services (TBS), and Intensive Day Treatment Program.
