Overview

Sign-on/retention bonus $20,000 

 

The Clinical Lab Technician/Technologist will perform moderate and high complexity testing and result analysis for clinical laboratory departments including chemistry, immunoassay, infectious disease, hematology, urinalysis, and blood bank subdisciplines. Participates in documenting and implementing Quality Assurance (QA)/Quality Control (QC)/Quality Inventory (QI) procedures. Assists in trouble shooting and maintenance of equipment. Performs laboratory tasks and other functions independently.


Responsibilities

  • Accurately perform, evaluate, interpret, and report results for clinical laboratory testing disciplines including chemistry, immunoassay, infectious diseases, hematology, urinalysis, and blood bank.
  • Follow all laboratory procedures to maintain safety, quality, and compliance.
  • Correctly identify and label patient specimens.
  • Correlates and interprets laboratory data based on clinical knowledge.
  • Execute required maintenance on all laboratory instrumentation.
  • Performs simple to complex testing utilizing established departmental protocols.
  • Reads, understands, and adheres to all the SOPs, policies, and protocols.
  • Reports results via the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Prepares clinical specimens for testing and identifies specimen related problems.
  • Establishes and performs proper quality control measures (i.e. temperature monitoring, instrument maintenance, reagent/specimen preparation, etc.) in accordance with laboratory operating standards.
  • Documents daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly quality control (e.g. equipment/instrument maintenance, calibrations, certifications) to support quality assurance initiatives.
  • Identifies problems that may adversely affect test performance, reporting of test results, or instrument functions. Troubleshoots and/or reports findings to supervisor, manager, or director.
  • Documents all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from the laboratory's established performance specification.
  • Assists the supervisor in ensuring an efficient workflow operation and reports any delays and/or problems.
  • Monitors TAT and workflow processes.
  • Assists in preparation of validation documentation of new tests and procedures as assigned.
  • Maintain records that demonstrate that PT samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples
  • Cleans and maintains lab equipment, instrumentation, and works

Qualifications

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Clinical Laboratory Sciences/Medical Technology or related, required.  
  • Bachelor's degree (B. S.) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school in Clinical Laboratory Sciences/Medical Technology or related, preferred. 
  • Minimum 1 year of testing experience in the field of clinical laboratory testing (chemistry, immunoassay, hematology, urinalysis, and blood bank),
  • Certification as a Medical Technician, Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Technologist (MT) from a recognized certifying agency (e.g., ASCP, AMT), preferred.
    • Florida State Licensure is not required
  • Experience with Beckman-Coulter Instrumentation, preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory testing methodologies, instrumentation, and quality control procedures.
