What you’ll be challenged to do:
As a Highway Designer, you’ll support roadway engineering and design efforts on transportation projects throughout Maryland and the surrounding region. Working alongside experienced engineers and project teams, you’ll assist with the development of roadway designs, plans, calculations, and technical documents that contribute to safe, efficient, and sustainable transportation infrastructure. You’ll have the opportunity to build your technical skills, gain experience across multiple aspects of roadway design, and contribute to projects that improve mobility and connectivity within the communities we serve.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Assist with the development of roadway design concepts and engineering plans
- Support roadway design activities while coordinating with bridge, transit, environmental, geotechnical, and civil/site teams as needed
- Prepare engineering plans and design documentation, including roadway geometry, grading, drainage, maintenance and protection of traffic, and other roadway elements
- Perform engineering calculations and assist with quantity and cost estimates
- Support the preparation of project specifications and technical documents
- Assist with design reviews and revisions to support quality and accuracy
- Coordinate with project engineers and other disciplines to support project deliverables
- Assist with permitting coordination and submissions
- Support project schedules and track assigned tasks across concurrent projects
- Participate in project meetings and collaborate with internal project teams
- Develop proficiency with roadway design software and applicable design standards
- Continue building technical knowledge and experience in highway and roadway design
What you'll bring to our firm:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
- 1+ year of highway and roadway design experience
- Experience with MicroStation, OpenRoads, and Microsoft Office
- Understanding of highway and roadway design principles
- Ability to prepare engineering plans, calculations, and technical documentation
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary project team
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Interest in developing technical expertise in transportation and roadway design
What you'll bring to our firm:
- EIT
- Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D
- Experience with Maryland transportation projects or agencies
Compensation:
The range for this position is salary range is $65,000-$97,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
