Job Summary The Construction Technician – Trainer is responsible for delivering high-quality technical instruction related to construction equipment systems, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repair. This position supports workforce development, customer training, and internal skill advancement by combining real-world field experience with effective instructional practices. The ideal candidate is an experienced construction equipment technician with a strong technical background and a passion for teaching and mentoring others. The position will provide hands-on and classroom instruction covering a variety of construction equipment, including excavators, dozers, skid steers, wheel loaders, and other heavy construction equipment. This role will help technicians develop the knowledge and skills necessary to properly inspect, maintain, diagnose, and service construction equipment while emphasizing safety, efficiency, and manufacturer-recommended service practices. Key Responsibilities Instruction & Training Delivery Deliver classroom and hands-on instruction related to construction equipment operation, preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repair. Provide training on equipment including excavators, dozers, skid steers, wheel loaders, and other construction equipment. Demonstrate proper service procedures, diagnostic techniques, safety practices, and troubleshooting methods. Adapt training delivery to accommodate varying skill levels and learning styles. Evaluate trainee performance and provide constructive feedback to support skill development. Provide hands-on demonstrations using tools, diagnostic equipment, and construction equipment. Reinforce proper use of service information, technical manuals, and manufacturer procedures. Technical Subject Matter Provide instruction and technical guidance in areas including: Preventive maintenance and maintenance schedules Fluid and filter systems Hydraulic systems Electrical systems Diesel engines and diagnostics Tires and tracks Daily and weekly equipment inspections Construction equipment systems and components Troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures Safe and proper service practices Curriculum & Program Development Assist in the development, refinement, and continuous improvement of construction equipment training programs. Prepare and maintain training materials aligned with company objectives, manufacturer guidelines, and industry standards. Develop hands-on training exercises and technical demonstrations. Support certification preparation and skills assessments where applicable. Identify training gaps and recommend opportunities for additional technical development. Safety & Compliance Promote and reinforce safe work practices and proper use of tools, diagnostic equipment, and construction equipment. Ensure training activities comply with applicable safety regulations and company standards. Emphasize proper inspection procedures and identification of potential safety concerns. Maintain a training environment that prioritizes safety, quality, and professionalism. Collaboration & Support Work closely with the Training Manager and other trainers to coordinate schedules, curriculum, equipment, and training resources. Support internal teams, customers, and partners through specialized training sessions as needed. Maintain accurate training documentation, attendance records, and certification tracking. Collaborate with service and technical teams to identify recurring equipment issues and training opportunities. Strong working knowledge of construction equipment systems, diagnostics, preventive maintenance, and repair. Hands-on experience with equipment such as excavators, dozers, skid steers, wheel loaders, or similar heavy construction equipment. Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and equipment maintenance. Demonstrated ability to teach, mentor, and communicate technical concepts effectively. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work effectively with individuals with varying levels of technical experience. Preferred Qualifications Experience with engine overhaul and aftertreatment systems. Experience working on transmissions and powertrain systems. Experience with Develon, Liebherr, and/or Takeuchi equipment. Prior instructional, training, or mentoring experience. Experience developing technical training materials or hands-on training programs. Experience using electronic diagnostic tools and manufacturer-specific service software. Skills & Competencies Strong technical aptitude and hands-on problem-solving skills. Ability to diagnose complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and diesel engine issues. Ability to engage learners with varying experience levels. Strong presentation and communication skills. Organized, professional, and detail-oriented. Ability to demonstrate technical concepts in both classroom and hands-on environments. Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships with technicians, customers, and internal teams.   WORK CONDITIONS Physical Demands/Work Environment: This position regularly requires walking, standing, sitting, stooping, bending, kneeling and climbing stairs. It also often requires pushing, pulling, twisting, lifting 50+ lbs. and working in a variety of weather conditions and noise levels.
