They prepare various cuts of meat for sale ensuring that products are well-stocked, attractively displayed, and meet quality standards. Excellent customer service skills are essential for this role in helping customers in the selection of high-quality meats. An Assistant Meat Manager must follow all food safety and sanitation procedures established by the company and other regulatory agencies. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Assist in the planning, organization, and direction of the activities of the Meat Department. Know and have the ability to cost out all material to determine proper retails. Possess sufficient knowledge and ability to teach others all fundamentals of meat production. This will include cutting, slicing, scaling, wrapping, and finishing. Assist in maintaining effective control of department labor and inventory in line with established budgets and guidelines. Assist in maintaining effective department security in compliance with company policy and directives. Maintain an awareness of competitive activity within the store marketing areas at all times as it relates to the Meat Department. Also, maintain awareness and concern for the company's interest and investment at all times through the regular practice of sound, honest judgment. Provide input into merchandising decisions to the store and department manager for increased sales. Conduct the receiving, storing, pricing and merchandising of all meat products. Maintain adequate and appropriate department records at all times. Supports the team by taking on additional tasks or responsibilities as requested. Position Requirements MINIMUM AGE: 18 Years Please note: weekend shifts are required (holidays as applicable) PERMITS: Food Handlers (preferred – willing to train) Physical/Sensory Demands Work is generally performed in a safe and comfortable store environment with the possibility of frequent exposure to hot or cold conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to grasp, push, pull, carry, stoop, twist, crouch, and reach; perform tasks requiring repetitive motion and eye, hand and foot coordination; hear and respond to customer inquiries.
