Position Overview
Reporting to the Vice President of FP&A, this role owns the day-to-day execution of GrayMar’s planning, budgeting, and forecasting cycles. The Senior Manager will run the annual budget process end to end, drive the recurring forecast cadence, and serve as the finance point person for capital planning, asset utilization, and return on invested capital across the fleet. The role partners directly with the executive team and the private equity sponsor, works alongside commercial teams on sales operations and pricing, and supports the VP on acquisition integration. This is a hands-on “player-coach” role — balancing individual contributor work with developing FP&A Analysts — for someone who is assertive, comfortable picking up the phone to resolve issues directly, and eager to build process where little exists. With significant runway for both company growth and advancement within the role, it is well suited to someone ready to grow with the business in a fast-paced, PE-backed environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and direction to the FP&A teams and model GrayMar values.
- Ensure each employee is prepared and educated in safe work practices.
- Develop, coach, train, and promote employees. Provide ongoing feedback and motivation, including performance goals.
- Own the annual operating budget process end to end — a bottoms-up build driven by labor utilization, equipment utilization, and other operational drivers — including target setting, departmental coordination, template design, consolidation, and preparation of materials for leadership and the sponsor.
- Own the recurring forecast cycle, including the Beginning-of-Month (BOM), Mid-of-Month (MOM), and End-of-Month (EOM) updates, and build out rolling reforecast capability.
- Partner with branch and operations leaders to drive engagement in the forecast process and hold the field accountable to plan.
- Support the burdened cost analysis that informs pricing, project profitability, and labor/equipment rate setting.
- Prepare and refine monthly management reporting, variance analysis, and driver-based commentary following Corporate Accounting’s close.
- Support the development of board, lender, and sponsor deliverables, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and analytical integrity.
- Partner with the Business Intelligence team to create and enhance reporting and dashboards for end users — including Operations and other stakeholders — covering KPIs, Project Profitability, Equipment Utilization, and Labor Utilization.
- Deliver ad-hoc analysis and decision-support materials in response to leadership, board, and investor requests.
- Own sales operations and commercial FP&A, including sales forecasting, pipeline analysis, and reporting of bookings, revenue, and margin. The sales and revenue forecast feeds the A/R forecast, which in turn inputs into the 13-week cash flow forecast (TWCF), in partnership with the CFO and Corporate Accounting.
- Partner with commercial leaders on pricing, rate cards, and cost-plus proposals, using burdened cost and margin analysis to support decisions.
- Lead financial analysis on large projects, including building the templates Operations uses to track sales, costs, and margin.
- Provide decision support and profitability analysis on customer, contract, and service-line performance.
- Support the VP of FP&A on finance integration of acquisitions, including reporting alignment, forecast integration, and KPI standardization.
- Partner with Corporate Accounting on close calendar, chart-of-accounts mapping, and operational integration items post-close.
- Assist with diligence support and post-close performance tracking on future acquisitions.
- Partner directly with the executive team — CEO, COO, CFO, VP of Sales, VP of Operations, and VP of HR — as well as the private equity sponsor.
- Partner closely with cross-functional departments to align financial reporting with operational execution.
- Develop and mentor FP&A Analysts, operating as a player-coach who both executes hands-on and builds the team’s capability.
- Be assertive and proactive — pick up the phone to resolve data, reporting, and process issues directly rather than letting them linger.
- Drive process improvement and effective utilization of the ERP (NetSuite) and supporting BI/reporting tools.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
- Strong work ethic with a safety-first mindset.
- Ability to work independently or part of a team while managing multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Prior experience in a private equity-backed or high-growth environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of GAAP financials and the interplay between the accounting close and FP&A reporting.
- Proficiency with ERP systems (NetSuite highly valued), advanced Excel modeling, Power Query and Power BI, and AI tools (Claude, Gemini, Chat GPT, etc.).
- Experience with capital planning, ROI/ROIC analysis, and asset utilization strongly preferred.
- Experience mentoring or developing junior analysts a plus.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Assertive, hands-on, and results-oriented, with the confidence to engage operators and stakeholders directly and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Education and Experience Required
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field required.
- MBA, CPA, or CFA designation a plus.
- 5–8 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or related disciplines.
- FP&A experience desired; candidates with strong accounting, corporate finance, or transaction/diligence backgrounds who are ready to move into an FP&A role are encouraged to apply.
Benefits
- Comprehensive health benefits coverage after 60 days of full-time employment.
- 401(k) with discretionary company match.
- Company paid STD, LTD, and life insurance.
- Company paid time off and holidays.
- Career path programs and ongoing company-paid training.
- Family culture with positive and safe work environments.
