Description:

Nurse Manager for Burdett Birth Center

FT Days - EXEMPT

Nurse Manager has 24-hour accountability for the effective and efficient operation of a single or multiple related unit. The Manager spends 20% of the time in direct staff supervision and 80% of the time in administrative duties.

The Patient Care Services Nurse Manager of the Burdett Birth Center will report to the SPHP Maternity Services System Director. The Nurse Manager responsibilities include maintaining a high patient satisfaction, ensuring that clinical operations are effective, and overseeing hiring and retention of staff. The Manager will educate staff on organizational goals, patient safety, quality of care, and regulatory requirements. Including:

  • Participate and engage staff in LEAN activities and goals.
  • Collaborate with staff and physicians on achieving throughput metrics. Collaborates with members of the interdisciplinary leadership team and unit staff to ensure department productivity and budget standards are maintained.
  • Coordinates and conducts unit staff meetings with collaboration of the Director.
  • Communicates and collaborates on a regular basis with the Director Achievements and concerns related to patient safety, quality, patient loyalty, associate engagement and physician satisfaction.
  • Exercise a leadership style that fosters an environment where the concepts of positive peer relations, team building, collaboration, achievement of consensus and cooperation are integrated within the health team.
  • Develops and supports employees at all levels in a supportive atmosphere, which is open to ideas.
  • Plans for, directs, and/or participates in regularly scheduled meetings and conferences with staff.
  • Informs staff of organizational changes.
  • Seeks to provide a link between management and staff.
  • Interprets organizational goals.
  • Utilizes motivational dynamics to maintain productivity and morale.
  • Allocates responsibility and authority appropriately.
  • Maintains accountability for work by staff and self.
  • Seeks to maintain professional identity of team members.
  • Attends Committee meetings as required                   
  • Takes timely and appropriate actions to resolve identified issues.
  • Exercises patience and control, especially in difficult or stressful situations; resolves conflicts appropriately.

Provides operations & / or optimization leadership to professional & / or frontline staff, supervisors & / or managers; Retains accountability for staff coordination, training, hiring, performance, regulatory compliance & results of assigned department(s); Develops departmental plans, including organizational priorities; Controls resources, effectiveness & policy formation in area of responsibility; Collaborates with larger teams of health professionals to plan for long-term patient care needs.
Operations-focus:

Directly manages department(s) / service line; Decisions are guided by resource availability as informed by operational need, functional objectives & clinical drivers of department; Responsible for driving outcomes through the daily management of resources; Primarily patient facing
Optimization-focus (advance, improve, enhance, leverage): Manages indirect or patient care department / program; Priorities are guided by the operational & clinical needs of patient care areas; Develops plans in concert with Nursing Operations Managers in support of the department functional objectives & clinical drivers where support is assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. Valid RN licensure authorized in the applicable state(s) of practice / employment. Baccalaureate of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree from an accredited school of nursing. Valid driver’s license where required by assignment.
Additional Qualifications (nice to have)
Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree from an accredited school of nursing. Leadership experience & / or other experience / licensure / certifications aligned with area of responsibility & assignment.

Pay Range: $54.00-$71.31hr  EXEMPT

Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
