JOB PURPOSE

Job purpose PHINIA is currently looking for a “dynamic, results driven” individual to join as a Lean Engineer at our at our Aftermarket Remanufacturing Plant in Troy, MI.

This person will primarily be responsible for implementing lean activities for our Troy Meijer Drive remanufacturing site including deploying working with cross functional teams to lead new assembly and/or functional test processes for remanufacturing/re-processing fuel system products or components of commercial vehicles and guide manufacturing engineers on their respective processes.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Help organization to implement lean activities, deploy visual standard & CI monitoring tools      
  • Optimize the use of equipment, personnel and material to arrive at the lowest life cycle cost for new programs.
  • Able to assist plant level support teams in production build data collection and gap closure analysis/activities during the program launch phase of new projects.        
  • Responsible to identify and improve the outcomes of manufacturing and operational processes to improve efficiencies, reduce cost and increase customer quality and satisfaction        
  • Identify and facilitate process improvement projects, training/ workshops to drive cultural change (OEE Improvement)                                
  • Create current and future value stream mapping, identify "MUDA" to work on reducing them  
  • Validate workstation concepts through the use of AutoCAD analysis and 3D mock-ups when applicable.  
  • Standardized work development and implementation for all operators in the manufacturing process following the latest divisional procedures.
  • Develop and implement material handling/movement solutions (flow through FIFO Racks, etc.).
  • Organize trainings on SPQVC metrics to all workers to facilitate CI       
  • Carrying out advanced data collection and analysis for process mapping and cost analysis to determine project feasibility                                            
  • Implement Lean techniques such as Single - piece flow, Cell Manufacturing, Kanban, Hiejunka Principles, FIFO, etc. on many CI projects                                 
  • Lead lost time system data collection and analysis project throughout the plant                                  
  • Design and develop processes to optimize efficient process flow, improve process capability and employee safety                                                                   
  • Implement/maintain electronic version of SPQVC data collection system to remotely monitor production numbers, lost time etc.                                  
  • Identify at least one cost saving idea to contribute towards CI of organization
  • Lead many Problems solving A3's to drill down to root causes of a problem and to resolve it efficiently                                      
  • Responsible for conduct trainings on Business process Improvement, Practical problem solving and Rapid Problem solving
  • Lead Meijer Dr. cost saving initiative
  • Mentor/coach lean techniques to technician - Efficient data collection, lost time system 
  • Coordinate the development of plant floor layouts and the installation of new equipment.

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor’s Degree Preferred – Type: Industrial, Operations, Engineering, Management or related field.
  • Certification Preferred for Job: Lean/Six Sigma Certification
  • Kaizen Facilitator certification preferred
  • Proven problem-solver using Continuous Improvement methods and techniques to drive performance.
  • Experience with using Lean Methodologies (e.g. 5S, Labor Utilization and Efficiency, Value Stream Mapping, PFEP).
  • Experience mentoring and/or leading structured process improvement activities such as Kaizen events
  • Experience using data analysis to drive improvements through the application of Lean and/or Six Sigma tools and concepts
  • Must have a bias for action and a track record of delivering substantial financial results.
  • Strong situational leadership skills to influence all levels of the organization within the manufacturing factory.
  • Capable of building strong relationships with Operations leaders in order to effect change.
  • Self-starter to lead change and make independent and informed decisions.
  • Personal traits--relentless, agile, high-energy, analytical, strong interpersonal skills, personally accountable.
  • Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong PC skills; Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams), and other applicable applications such as Minitab, etc.
  • Minimum 2 years manufacturing experience, previous project management experience and/or continuous improvement skills training.
  • Strong analytical background - 7 Quality tools, SPC, Hypothesis Testing, Regression and Correlation Analysis
