Summary:  

The Legal Counsel II is responsible for providing legal advice, drafting and reviewing legal documents, managing legal disputes, and overseeing compliance systems. This role will work closely with the business teams to ensure that all legal matters are handled in a timely, efficient, and appropriate manner. This individual will report to the Team Leader of the North America Legal Team.

  

Responsibilities: 

  • Provide legal advice and counsel across a broad range of legal and compliance matters
  • Review and update company policies and practices to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance
  • Oversee, maintain, and enhance the company’s compliance programs and frameworks
  • Conduct risk assessments and prepare reports for compliance committees and leadership
  • Prepare for the possibility of audits and investigations by developing strategies, maintaining documentation, and implementing procedures
  • Draft, review and negotiate contracts and other legal documents
  • Manage litigation matters and legal claims, coordinating with external counsel as needed
  • Develop and deliver legal and compliance training across the organization
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

 Qualifications: 

  • Juris Doctorate or equivalent Law degree from an accredited law school
  • Licensed to practice law in the state of Michigan preferred but not required 
  • Comprehensive knowledge of corporate law and procedures, with experience in corporate compliance, labor and employment matters, and safety & environmental issues
  • Demonstrate excellent business and legal judgment, with a strong ability to assess risk and set priorities based on risk evaluation and business needs
  • Excellent analytical, communication, research, writing, and negotiation skills
  • High degree of professionalism and integrity

 

Experience: 

  • Minimum 3+ years of Legal experience 
  • Experience at a law firm and/or within a global in-house legal team preferred
