Position Summary: 

The Patient Safety & Quality Program Manager is responsible for guiding the facility’s patient safety activities that lead to the mitigation of risk to patients, staff and the organization.  This includes the administration of the entity’s Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES) for the purpose of collecting, managing, analyzing and protecting Patient Safety Work Product (PSWP) in order to prevent future patient, staff and organizational harm.  Supports the quality program and leads quality improvement projects.  Manages hospital regulatory and accreditation programs, monitoring compliance with policies and procedures.

Education, License & Cert: 

Associate degree required, Bachelor’s degree preferred. Healthcare license required. 

Experience: 

Three years experience in a healthcare setting, preferably with a focus on patient safety, quality management or risk management.

Essential Functions: 

1. Administers the entity’s Patient Safety Evaluation System (PSES) for the purpose of collecting, managing, analyzing and protecting Patient Safety Work Product (PSWP).

2. Conducts patient safety investigations including Root Cause Analysis and Event Debriefs to identify opportunities for improvement.

3. Manages the entity’s Incident Reporting System.

4. Collaborates with legal counsel to identify and report potential risks, assessing probability for legal action.

5. Supports or leads infection prevention practices as part of the healthcare associated infections reduction process.

6. Leads and/or Participates in select committees as assigned.

7. Leads or Assists the Patient Advocate and other leaders in the resolution of patient complaints and grievances.

8. Participates as the lead for the entity in The Guthrie Clinic Patient Safety Organization functions.

9. Supports the organizations regulatory compliance and leads or participates in regulatory surveys including unplanned investigations.

10. Manages and interprets quality standards.

Other Duties: 

1. May occasionally be assigned organizational leadership roles that require after hours management of incidents and events.
