Position Summary

General Summary/Responsibilities:

A registered polysomnographic technologist works under the general supervision of the medical director to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in center and out of center sleep testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, scoring of records, patient care and patient education.

    Must have the Registered Polysomnographic Technologist credential issued by the Board of Registered Polysomnography Technologist or Registered Sleep Technologist credential issued by the American Board of Sleep Medicine.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

Physical Requirements:

1.    Must be able to work variable shifts based on patient care needs.
2.    Must be able to work extended hours at a computer station.
3.    May be required to work as a solitary poly tech during the shift.
4.    May be exposed to aggressive, violent behaviors from patients, family members and/or visitors
5.    May be exposed to blood and body fluids, including those with tuberculosis, HIV positive, hepatitis or body infestations

·        Follow procedural protocols such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test, Maintenance of Wakefulness Test, parasomnia studies, PAP and oxygen titration to ensure collection of appropriate data.

·        Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory heart rates, etc.

·        Insure signals during testing are artifact free and make adjustments as necessary.

·        Follows appropriate workflows for scoring and data retrieval.
