ASIC/FPGA Mid-Level Manager - Design & Verification

Company:

The Boeing Company

Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) is seeking an ASIC/FPGA Mid-Level Manager - Design & Verification to join our team in Tukwila, WA.

Our ASIC & FPGA Engineering organization is a centralized engineering capability supporting a diverse portfolio of advanced aerospace, space, and defense programs. Rather than joining a single product team, our engineers become part of a long-term engineering organization where they contribute across multiple technologies and programs as business needs evolve, providing continuous technical growth and long-term career stability.

What We Build

Our teams develop advanced digital technologies including ASICs, SoCs, FPGAs, digital processors, communications systems, sensor processing, high-speed digital interfaces, and other mission-critical electronics supporting commercial aviation, defense platforms, national security space systems, satellite payloads, autonomous aircraft, and other advanced applications.

How We Work

We believe exceptional engineers are developed through ownership, technical excellence, collaboration, and continuous learning. Engineers are encouraged to take ownership beyond narrowly defined functional boundaries by identifying risks early, driving technical solutions, communicating effectively, and helping teammates succeed. Our teams bring together complementary technical strengths while providing opportunities to broaden systems understanding and develop deep expertise in selected domains.

Who Succeeds Here

Successful engineers are curious, proactive, and collaborative. They enjoy solving challenging technical problems, mentoring others, continuously improving their skills, and contributing to the success of both their teams and the broader engineering organization. As engineers gain experience, they have opportunities to expand into technical leadership, subsystem ownership, mentoring, architecture discussions, and cross-functional leadership while continuing to grow their technical expertise.

The Opportunity

As a Design & Verification Engineering Manager, you will initially lead approximately 5–10 design, verification, and implementation engineers while helping grow a high-performing ASIC product team over time. This role blends people management, technical leadership, and program execution. You will recruit outstanding engineers, develop future technical leaders, partner across engineering disciplines, and strengthen the organization through continuous improvement.

Our managers are expected to develop exceptional engineers, deliver on-time first-pass execution, and continuously strengthen the organization for the future.

Key Responsibilities

As an ASIC/FPGA Design Manager on the Boeing Electronic Products team you will develop state-of-the-art digital ICs/SoCs to support the most critical programs across the enterprise.  We collaborate with other electronics groups across the company and around the world and support ASIC/FPGA design and verification for electronics at the leading edge of technology.

  • Manage a portfolio of ASIC/FPGA development programs, typically two to four within a product area, and guide the technical baseline and program execution.

  • Hire and support the ASIC/FPGA engineers, including project leads, working programs within your portfolio.

  • Implement common design practices used across the wider department, and ensure consistent first-time quality for both ASIC and FPGA designs through the use of a comprehensive verification process.

  • Develop and maintain relationships and partnerships with customers and strategic suppliers.

  • Lead or contribute to individual projects, including IRAD and new business activities and support proposals for the department, including architecture development and the selection of appropriate technologies to meet mission requirements.

  • Train and mentor less senior engineers and project leads and help build effective teams.
