Position Overview

International Motors is seeking a Lead Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at the Tulsa Bus Plant. This is a highly hands-on, floor-focused engineering role supporting high-volume manufacturing operations for industry-leading IC Bus products.

As a Lead Manufacturing Engineer, you’ll be at the center of plant operations—working directly with production teams to solve problems, improve processes, introduce new products and technologies, and deliver measurable improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, and employee experience.

You’ll have the opportunity to lead significant manufacturing projects while serving as a technical resource and mentor to other engineers. From troubleshooting production issues and optimizing tooling to implementing Lean improvements and managing capital projects, your work will have a direct impact on how our products are built.

This role is ideal for a manufacturing engineer who enjoys being on the production floor, solving real-world problems, leading projects, and turning engineering concepts into reliable, efficient manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor less experienced manufacturing engineers through technical problem solving and successful project execution.
  • Spend significant time on the manufacturing floor working directly with production, maintenance, quality, engineering, and represented employees to identify and resolve manufacturing issues.
  • Lead major plant engineering and capital projects from planning and budgeting through implementation and production launch.
  • Develop project plans, establish priorities, track milestones, manage budgets, and communicate project status, risks, and results to leadership.
  • Partner with design engineering and cross-functional teams to introduce new products, processes, tooling, equipment, and engineering changes into production.
  • Evaluate new product designs and engineering releases to identify manufacturing requirements, process risks, tooling needs, and opportunities to improve manufacturability.
  • Troubleshoot production, tooling, equipment, process, and workflow issues and develop practical engineering solutions that can be implemented quickly and effectively.
  • Identify and implement Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement opportunities that improve safety, quality, delivery, cost, productivity, ergonomics, and employee experience.
  • Develop and optimize manufacturing processes, workstation layouts, material flow, tooling, equipment, and standardized work.
  • Create, update, and maintain manufacturing quality documentation, including PFMEAs, Control Plans, standardized processes, and reaction plans.
  • Develop and implement error-proofing (Poka-Yoke) solutions to prevent defects and strengthen first-time quality.
  • Use manufacturing simulation and analytical tools to evaluate capacity, material flow, process performance, and proposed manufacturing changes.
  • Support implementation of digital work instructions and other technologies that improve process consistency, operator experience, and manufacturing performance.
  • Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to improve equipment reliability, process capability, and overall manufacturing efficiency.
  • Provide floor-level engineering support during daily production and respond effectively to issues that impact safety, quality, delivery, or productivity.
  • Drive projects and process improvements from initial concept through implementation, validation, and sustained production performance.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience in product manufacturing

OR

We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)

Desired Skills

  • Strong manufacturing engineering experience in a high-volume production environment
  • Proven experience working directly on the manufacturing floor and supporting daily production
  • Strong troubleshooting and root cause problem-solving skills
