The Registered Respiratory Therapist reports to the shift supervisor/manager. Capable of setting up and operating various types of equipment to be utilized in the diagnosis and treatment of respiratory disease and or illness. The therapist provides administration of respiratory specific gases and medications and modes of therapy for the respiratory compromised patient. Responds to emergencies throughout the hospital, performs Holter monitor initiation and discontinuance, and analyzes and advises on arterial blood gas results. In-service patients and families on the use of Respiratory equipment in the home environment. Assists in the transport of mechanically ventilated patients. Takes and records verbal and telephone orders from physicians as necessary. Acts as a resource person to nurses, physicians, residents, interns, respiratory staff, students and other hospital staff in regards to initiation and operation of all respiratory procedures. May assume a Charge role in the absence of the Respiratory Supervisor and assist in the ordering of department supplies. The therapist takes an active part in attending departmental in-service/education programs, participates in Quality Assurance programs, and participates in department and/or OSUMC committees. Work schedule includes working alternate weekends and holidays. Performs all other duties as assigned.  This position is a 13-week assignment.
