Job Summary:
The Shop Supervisor will direct, supervise, and coordinate operations (machining, welding, painting, and assembly) throughout a designated department. The Shop Supervisor will oversee a crew of approximately 10 to 30+ team members involved in the production, finishing, and assembly of the Company’s products. This role is responsible for safety, quality, output, manufacturing costs, meeting production schedules, and on-time shipments. The Shop Supervisor may also supervise various functions, including machining (both manual and CNC), sheave forming, welding, assembly, painting, press operations, radial drills, and small drills.
Responsibilities:
- Works under the direction of the General Manager or Operations Manager.
- Supervises a team engaged in machining, welding, sheave forming, and assembly operations.
- Oversees complex machine setups and operations to produce standard and custom parts with precise tolerances and finish requirements.
- Accountable for safety, quality, productivity, manufacturing costs, production schedules, and on-time delivery.
- Assigns and organizes work to optimize labor, equipment, and tooling for efficient, high-quality production.
- Troubleshoots machining, tooling, and equipment issues to minimize downtime and maintain workflow; coordinates maintenance as needed.
- Provides instruction and oversight of setup, machining, finishing, and assembly processes.
- Partners with QA to ensure compliance with company and customer quality standards; completes corrective actions as required.
- Collaborates with Engineering, Production, Planning, and Purchasing to improve processes, reduce costs, and support new programs.
- Supports LEAN/OPEX initiatives and continuous improvement efforts.
- Evaluates employee performance, maintains documentation, and makes recommendations on retention, advancement, and compensation.
- Ensures compliance with company policies, procedures, and collective bargaining agreements; supports labor relations activities.
- Promotes a safe work environment, conducts inspections, and partners with EHS on incident investigations.
- Coordinates workflow priorities, expedites orders, and works with internal teams and vendors to meet production and delivery goals.
- Participates in hiring, training, and ongoing development activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- 5–10+ years in manufacturing/industrial environment.
- 3–5+ years in a supervisory/lead role.
- Ability to clearly communicate with specific data and details.
- Experience with ERP systems such as SAP or similar.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word).
- Experience with production metrics such as OEE%.
- Experience with a QMS and quality documentation (NCR, CAR, RCA).
- Experience with developing SOP’s and coordinating 5S events.
Preferred Experience/Skills:
- Experience working in a Union environment is preferred.
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, Engineering, or related field preferred.
