Essential Functions (Responsibilities):

 

  • Perform the operational duties of an Armed Security Officer, as needed. 

 

Training 

  • Responsible for training all new security officers, providing content in the following areas. 

  • CLEET content 

  • Firearms and range instruction 

  • Defensive tactics (DT) 

  • Internal processes 

  • Oversee all preparation for CLEET examinations for new security officers.

  • Oversee continual training of current security officers. 

  • Oversee Virtual Academy; maintain training schedule and enter completed information. 

  • Verify officers complete CLEET annual certification requirements. 

  • Verify officers maintain CPR certification and other required certifications. 

  • Meets regularly with the Director of TU Security to discuss additional training that is needed for officers and dispatchers. 

  • Coordinate with outside agencies for additional training opportunities. 

  • Coordinate with the Assistant Director/Captain-Patrol and the Lieutenant-Patrol to discuss remediation that is needed for officers. 

  • Provide remediation training for officers. 

 

TU Events 

  • Plans and coordinate security for all special events and major sporting events that occur on university properties. 

  • Serve as a liaison with departments regarding city permits needed for events. 

  • Coordinate and maintain traffic flow plans for events held on the TU campus. 

  • Stand-up the Incident Command Center as needed for events happening on the university campus. 

  • Serve as the liaison to Greek Life. 

  • Responsible for renewing the TU Security Agency license. 

  • Supervise all gameday activities for football games and other large events on the university campus. 

  • Serve as the liaison for contract security personnel and the Tulsa Police Department for gameday and other large event operations. 

 

 

Knowledge/Skill/Ability

 

Equivalent Education/Experience

  • Proficiency utilizing a computer with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams software. 

  • Ability to supervise and lead teams of people.

  • Excellent written, verbal communication and interpersonal skills. 

  • Ability to de-escalate potentially dangerous and emotional situations.  

  • Ability to work with minimal supervision. 

  • Ability to exercise total discretion in managing sensitive and confidential information.   

  • Knowledge of State of Oklahoma criminal, vehicle, alcohol, and drug laws.

  • Ability to meet and maintain the firearms qualification standards established by the University of Tulsa Security Department. 

  • Ability to successfully meet and maintain the physical fitness standards established by the University of Tulsa Security Department.

  • Ability to meet and maintain the requirements set forth in 59 O.S., section 1750.1 et seq., The Oklahoma Security Guard and Private Investigator Act;

  • Certified for CLEET: Phases 1-4 (Private Investigator & Armed).

  • 2 years in an acting law enforcement or security management position responsible for patrol officer duties or direct reports.

  • Bachelor’s degree in law enforcement, criminal justice, security management, or related field. (Preferred)

  • American Society of Industrial Security (ASIS) Certified Protection Professional (CPP) certification or ASIS Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification.   (Preferred)

 

 

Special Job Dimensions:

The Lieutenant-Training position requires physical stamina to perform assigned shift in all types of environmental conditions, safely operate a motor vehicle, safely perform bicycle patrols, perform foot patrol, stand for extended periods of time, defend themselves and others in actual physical combat, occasionally lift and move people or heavy objects, climb or jump physical obstacles, and run various distances. 

 

This position requires shift work - hours and days may vary. May be required to work holidays, weekends, and/or after hours for special events hosted on university properties. May be subject to call back in the event of an emergency or because of special events.  Will be assigned a primary location, but may be required to work at a different site on occasion, e.g. main campus, Oxley Health Sciences Facility, Gilcrease Museum.
