Field Geologist / Geotechnical Coordinator - Tuscaloosa, AL
TTL, Inc. has a need for a full-time, geologic/geotechnical field project coordinator to be based in our Tuscaloosa, Alabama office and working on projects across the southern US. This full-time position provides technical field support for environmental, geological, and geotechnical engineering projects for both private and public sectors. This person must have a good safety record and be able to communicate effectively with other team members and clients.Â
This is a field-intensive position involving frequent travel, including extended overnight assignments to construction sites, undeveloped properties, roadways, and other project locations throughout the south. Work will involve exposure to a variety of conditions including heat, cold, rain, mud, uneven terrain, construction equipment, drilling operations, and other typical field conditions. The ideal candidate will have an educational background in geology, geotechnical engineering, or a related discipline and an interest in developing practical experience in geotechnical and geological consulting.Â
Responsibilities:
 Primary responsibilities may include, but not limited to:
- Coordinate and support geotechnical and geological field exploration activities
- Locate and stake boring locations at project sites across the southern United States
- Review project plans, maps, and site information to assist with locating exploration points
- Coordinate with utility locate services and notify utility locators of proposed drilling locations
- Collect, identify, classify, and describe soil and rock samples in accordance with project requirements
- Conduct field testing on collected soil samples and record pertinent drilling information
- Prepare accurate and legible field boring logs and maintain field documentation.
- Conduct field electrical earth resistivity testing
- Data entry of field boring information into appropriate software to prepare final boring logs
- Assist with various technical tasks related to meeting project objectives
- Design, communicate, and direct plans for projects with our field and laboratory staff
- Participate in safety meetings and maintain a safe working environment

Requirements:
- Associate’s degrees in Geology, Earth Science, Engineering, or a related field required. Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Geologic Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering preferred
- 0–2 years of experience in geological, geotechnical, environmental, construction, or related field work preferred; relevant academic or field experience will be considered
- Basic knowledge of geology, soil classification, and geotechnical field investigation methods
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering plans, topographic maps, aerial imagery, and site plans
- Strong attention to detail to document field observations and technical information
- Able to work in all types of weather and field conditions
- Flexibility to frequently work outside typical daily 8:00 am to 5:00 pm hours as project needs require
- Willingness to travel frequently for extended periods of time (travel >80%)
- Effective communication with fellow employees, subcontractors, and other project personnel
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
- Ability to successfully complete applicable company and project-specific safety training
- Valid drivers license and good driving record
