Position Overview:

The CNC SWISS Screw Machine Set up operator responsible for Swiss Nomura and Mori for metal components with tight tolerances in a DOD environment with daily set ups. The position requires the individual to be able to take the program and set up the machine and meet production set-up and run times.

Key Job Duties:

  • Minimum of 5 years' experience setting Swiss Machines
  • Must be able to effectively install tooling, set-up, and program of our Swiss Nomura, Citizen/Mori lathes unsupervised within the required set-up and run times for each operation
  • Must be capable of changing tools and editing programs for increased efficiency
  • Must be capable of using appropriate measuring tools and equipment
  • Must be capable of choosing appropriate cutting tools, machine fixture clamps and soft jaws
  • Must be able to read, interpret and work from engineering prints, drawings and sketches
  • Must be able to inspect and be responsible for the quality of your own work
  • Must feel comfortable with fast-paced environment and frequent changeovers
  • Must be able to work effectively with little to no supervision.
  • Must be willing to train operators on running equipment

Experience/Skills Requirements:

  • Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece.
  • Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture according to setup instructions.
  • Assembles cutting tools in tool holders and positions tool holders in machine spindles as specified or inserts cutting tools in specified machine magazines.
  • Loads program file in machine control console or enter commands to retrieve preprogrammed machine instructions from database.
  • Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point and to start machine.
  • Runs prototype programs when needed to.
  • Observes and listens to machine operations to detect malfunctions such as worn or damaged cutting tools.
  • Changes cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in setup instructions.
  • Measures work piece for conformance to specifications.
  • Adjusts machine feed and speed and changes cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunctions.

Education Requirements:

High school diploma or GED equivalent
