The Orthodontist is a Specialist who supports evidence-based practices to examine, diagnose, and treat dental malocclusions and oral cavity anomalies as well as neuromuscular and skeletal abnormalities of the developing or mature orofacial structures. Acts as a clinical leader providing direct and indirect mentoring to support clinical staff and provides high quality care in an evidenced based practice. This position reports to a Specialty Managing Dentist.

Essential Position Functions:

  • Protect patients and themselves from infectious disease by using appropriate safety apparel including masks, gloves and glasses and works with blood or blood borne pathogens and maintains appropriate OSHA training.
  • Study diagnostic records, such as medical or dental histories, plaster models of the teeth, photos of a patient’s face and teeth, and intra-oral and panoramic radiographs to develop patient treatment plans, and analyze patient data to determine patient needs or treatment goals.
  • Examine patients to assess abnormalities of jaw development, tooth position, and other dental-facial structures, and examine mouth, teeth, gums, or related facial structures.
  • Using evidence based principles to diagnose, document, manage and provide treatment for teeth and jaw or other dental-facial abnormalities or conditions. Provide patients with proposed treatment plans and cost estimates and communicate detailed medical information to patients or family members, and coordinate care which may include treatment from other providers (i.e. oral and maxillofacial surgeons and other healthcare providers).
  • Design and fabricate orthodontic devices appliances, such as space maintainers, retainers, and labial and lingual arch wires and fit dental appliances in patients’ mouth to alter the position and relationship of teeth and jaws or to realign teeth.
  • Adjust dental appliances or devices to produce and maintain normal function.
  • Instruct and mentor dental assistants in clinical orthodontic procedures and techniques, and train and lead orthodontic dental team.
  • Prepare diagnostic and treatment records and record patient medical histories in axiUm.
  • Collaborate with WD general dentists and clinicians to provide mentoring and education to enhance knowledge regarding orthodontics to enhance knowledge base.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and successful completion of a U.S. residency training program in Orthodontic Dentistry and Board certified or eligible.
  • Additional years of experience performing as a well – rounded Orthodontic Dentist is preferred.

Licenses, Certificates and Registrations:

  • Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) and successful completion of a U.S. residency training program in Orthodontic Dentistry and Board certified or eligible.
  • Minimum qualifications include an applicable State License. In addition, the Oregon license must indicate Limited to the Practice of Orthodontics as a specialty.
  • Washington and Oregon providers must have CPR Certification.
Expected hiring range for this position depending on experience (annual salary):
$100,000—$128,000 USD

Compensation

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to education, job-related knowledge/skills, experience, geographical location, and internal equity.  

This position is also eligible for incentive pay in accordance with the terms of the Company’s plan.

Paid Time Off (PTO): Eligible employees will accrue a minimum of 120 PTO hours per employment year in addition to seven paid holidays annually. The Company’s PTO program combines vacation and sick leave, which is more generous than Washington State’s Sick Leave Law. Employees in part-time roles working less than 40 hours per week will accrue PTO on a pro-rated basis.

Physical Requirements

The work is primarily performed while sitting and/or standing, but will require occasional walking, bending, stooping and carrying light items such as papers, books, or other supplies. The incumbent uses a computer and other standard office equipment to complete tasks.
