Medical Assistant
The Float Medical Assistant plays an important role in providing compassionate, patient-centered care across Bethesda Health Clinic’s Pediatric and Adult Primary Care clinics. This position supports providers and patients throughout the care experience while helping ensure safe, efficient, and consistent clinical operations.
Because this role serves multiple clinical areas, the Float Medical Assistant must be flexible, adaptable, and comfortable transitioning between departments based on patient volume, staffing, and clinic needs. The Float Medical Assistant works with patients across the lifespan, from infancy through adulthood, and provides both clinical and administrative support to the care team.
With strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and a heart for serving others, the Float Medical Assistant helps create a positive patient experience while supporting providers, communicating effectively with patients and families, and maintaining accurate clinical documentation. As a bilingual member of the care team, this position also helps ensure Spanish-speaking patients can effectively communicate with their healthcare team and understand their care.
OutcomesÂ
- Perform the duties of a Medical Assistant in a primary care setting with assistance from volunteer nurses when available.Â
- Work with Spanish speaking patients –translating during clinic and taking phone messages.
- Assist the Clinical Director and Medical Providers in any way to help make both Pediatrics and Adult clinic run smoothly.Â
- Perform Laboratory and Diagnostic support
- Maintain Electronic medical records and documentation
Qualifications
- Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Medical Assistant Certification preferred.
- Experience providing care or clinical support to patients across the lifespan, including infants, children, adolescents, and adults.
- Experience in Pediatric and Adult Primary Care preferred.
- Experience using Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport with patients and families of diverse backgrounds.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Ability to demonstrate flexibility and transition effectively between clinical departments based on organizational needs.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive patient information.
- Ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach as required to perform clinical duties.
- Ability to use the manual dexterity and fine motor skills necessary to perform clinical procedures.
- Ability to lift, move, or assist with patients, equipment, and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Sufficient vision and hearing to safely perform clinical duties and communicate effectively with patients, families, providers, and staff.
- Ability to work in an environment involving potential exposure to viruses, diseases, infections, bodily fluids, and other healthcare-related hazards.
- Ability to travel locally between Bethesda locations during the business day.
