Position Highlights

St. Michael's Hospital Avera is looking to fill a PRN Registered Nurse position in the hospital. Join the St. Michael's Hospital team!

Position Summary:

  • Utilizes the nursing process of assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating all nursing care provided.

  • Acts as a patient/family advocate and intervenes if necessary to ensure that patient care is not compromised.

  • Assesses the patient, records significant conditions and reactions and notifies supervisor or physician appropriately.  Monitors follow-up and provides further intervention as needed.

  • Initiates, provides, or delegates patient/family teaching at a level of expertise and documents appropriately, noting the recipients’ participation and response.

  • Identifies problems/concerns on the nursing unit and assists in developing resolutions in a positive, constructive manner. 

  • Makes a positive contribution to the morale of the department.

  • Demonstrates ability to provide appropriate care to patients of all ages

  • Completes all mandatory competencies identified for the job and department.

  • Demonstrates knowledge of department specific infection control, disaster, and safety policies.

  • Completes department specific orientation and annual unit skills inventory checklists within appropriate time frames

  • Completes computer competency checklist and remains current with computer updates.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to maintain competency in care of patient’s with medical diagnosis, including those with chronic and multi-system failure.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and ability to maintain competency in care of patients requiring technical skills such as care of chest tubes, administration of blood and chemotherapy, IV conscious sedation.

Required Education and License/Certification:

  • Graduate of a registered nurse education program

  • Must have current RN licensure in the state of SD or “multi-state privilege” to practice in SD if residing in a compact state outside of SD.

  • Current CPR certification or completion upon next available program.

  • Current Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum certification or completion upon next available program.
