Job DetailsJob Location: Legal Address - Unalaska, AK 99685Position Type: Full TimeQualificationsPosition Overview-Full Time The Culture Coordinator supports the protection, revitalization, and growth of Unangax culture, traditions, and lifeways for the Qawalangin Tribe of Unalaska. This position plays a central role in planning and implementing culturally grounded workshops, land-based activities, and community cultural programming. Working under the direction of the Culture Director, the Culture Coordinator ensures that programs reflect Tribal values, cultural protocols, and community priorities. The role emphasizes intergenerational knowledge sharing, engagement of Elders and Culture Bearers, and strengthening cultural identity across the community. Key Responsibilities • Develop, plan, and implement cultural workshops and educational programs grounded in Unangax traditions, arts, subsistence knowledge, storytelling, and seasonal practices. • Coordinate community cultural gatherings, demonstrations, and intergenerational learning opportunities. • Work with the Culture Director to establish program goals, timelines, and culturally appropriate outcomes. • Ensure cultural protocols and respectful practices are observed in all departmental activities. • Support the preservation and respectful transmission of traditional knowledge shared by Elders and Culture Bearers. • Assist in identifying community cultural priorities and emerging needs. • Build and maintain respectful relationships with Elders, Culture Bearers, knowledge keepers, artists, and community members. • Support Elders and cultural instructors in the delivery of programs, ensuring proper respect, compensation, and protocol. • Encourage community participation and cultural pride through inclusive, welcoming programming. • Support seasonal cultural activities and events aligned with Tribal priorities. • Assist with scheduling, logistics, and coordination of workshops, gatherings, and cultural events. • Manage program supplies, materials, and equipment, ensuring proper care and inventory tracking. • Maintain program documentation, participation records, and reports as required by grants or Tribal administration. Qualifications Education: • Associate or bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, education, or a related field preferred. Experience: • Experience coordinating community, cultural, educational, or land-based programs. • Demonstrated understanding of Unangax culture, values, and community priorities, or strong experience working respectfully within Alaska Native or Tribal communities. • Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. • Ability to work collaboratively with Elders, community members, Tribal staff, and leadership. • Experience working with Tribal governments or Alaska Native organizations preferred. • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and basic data tracking or reporting tools. • Experience working with Tribal governments or Alaska Native organizations preferred.
