About this Role

The Field Mechanic travels throughout their assigned region and is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a fleet of construction vehicles and heavy equipment/machinery. This role supports field operations by ensuring all vehicles and equipment are safe, reliable, and compliant with regulatory standards. Work is performed primarily at job sites.

What You'll Do

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs on commercial vehicles, including pickup trucks, medium/heavy-duty trucks, bucket trucks, and other equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using appropriate tools and diagnostic equipment.
  • Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair aerial lift systems, booms, outriggers, and related components.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance (PM) services to minimize downtime and extend equipment life.
  • Respond to field service calls and perform on-site repairs as needed.
  • Travel with storm crews, as needed.
  • Ensure all vehicles meet DOT, OSHA, and company safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate service records, inspection reports, and work orders.
  • Coordinate with operations and fleet management to prioritize repairs and minimize disruption.
  • Manage parts inventory and communicate parts needs in a timely manner.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What You'll Bring

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

路 High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required; technical or trade school certification preferred.

路 5+ years of experience working on commercial vehicles or heavy equipment.

路 Experience with hydraulic systems and aerial equipment (bucket trucks) strongly preferred.

路 Strong knowledge of diesel and gas engines, electrical systems, braking systems, and diagnostics.

路 Valid driver鈥檚 license required; CDL preferred or willingness to obtain.

路 Ability to read and interpret manuals, schematics, and technical documents.

路 Strong organizational skills with a strong attention to detail.

路 Ability to identify and solve issues.

路 Good interpersonal skills.

路 Self-motivated.

路 Capable of handling multiple projects concurrently with good time management.

路 Ability to conducts self in an appropriate manner as a representative of SEC, working effectively in a diverse work environment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position requires:

  • Regular presence in a shop settings and active construction field environments, including outdoor job sites subject to variable weather and terrain conditions.
  • Ability to traverse rough or uneven terrain and access construction work zones in compliance with all applicable safety protocols and personal protective equipment requirements.
  • The ability to drive to and from work sites and could include long periods of driving.
  • Ability to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform physically demanding tasks
  • Frequent standing, bending, climbing, and working at heights (for equipment inspection)
  • Ability to work overtime, weekend work, and on-call availability for emergency repairs
