Position Information
The University of Maryland Eastern Shore (UMES) School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a full-time, 12-month, tenure-track faculty position as Assistant/Associate Professor – Pathology. This position is responsible for the development and delivery of instruction in veterinary pathology within the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) curriculum and contribute to scholarship, service, and program development. Responsibilities include teaching, curriculum development, student mentoring, scholarly activity, and participation in accreditation and institutional initiatives consistent with the mission of UMES and AVMA Council on Education (COE) standards.

Salary Information
Salary range: $125,000 – $155,000 annually, commensurate with academic rank and experience.

Essential Responsibilities
• Develop and deliver instruction in general and systemic veterinary
pathology, including gross and histopathology laboratories.
• Incorporate active-learning strategies and case-based instruction to
promote diagnostic reasoning.
• Develop course materials, assessments, and digital pathology resources
aligned with established learning outcomes.
• Prepare, administer, and evaluate student assessments and maintain
accurate academic records.
• Participate in curriculum planning, review, and integration across
foundational and clinical sciences.
• Engage in scholarly activity, research, or educational innovation appropriate
to faculty rank.
• Mentor veterinary students in research and professional development
activities.
• Participate in departmental, school, and university committees and service
activities.
• Contribute to AVMA COE accreditation preparation, reporting, and
compliance activities.
• Maintain professional licensure and specialty board certification as
appropriate.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree.
• Completion of a residency in veterinary pathology.
• Board certification (ACVP or equivalent) or board-eligible status.
• Eligibility for veterinary licensure in the State of Maryland.
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching and student
mentorship.

Preferences: (Qualifications)
• Experience teaching in a professional DVM curriculum.
• Experience with digital pathology and instructional technologies.
• Record of peer-reviewed publications or externally funded research.
• Experience supporting AVMA COE accreditation activities.
• Clinical pathology expertise or diagnostic laboratory experience.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Knowledge of contemporary veterinary pathology principles and diagnostic
methodologies.
• Ability to effectively teach and mentor professional students.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively in a developing academic program.
• Commitment to fostering an inclusive and student-centered learning
environment.

Physical Demands:
• May require extended periods of standing, bending, stooping, sitting at
desk.
• May require lifting.
• Requires communication with a variety of constituents externally and
internally.
• Requires operation of a variety of office equipment.
