Organization's Summary Statement:Applications are currently being accepted for the position of Chair of the Department of Mathematics and Associate or Full Professor. The position is a 12-month appointment and reports directly to the Dean, School of Education, Social Sciences, and the Arts.

The successful candidate will be required to demonstrate a leadership style that is collaborative, dynamic, and visionary. The successful candidate must be willing to lead the Department into new programmatic directions through the re-imagination of the role of Mathematics at UMES, and to maintain a student-centered Department. The successful candidate will also be ready to work with the Department faculty to create new opportunities for Mathematics teaching, research, and scholarship.
Responsibilities:
•Develop an on-going program assessment and improvement plan
•Implement and monitor national accreditation standards and processes within
the Unit.
•Work with faculty to ensure high standards of program and curricular
improvement.
•Establish a rapport with students by creating an environment that fosters
academic and professional growth.
•Provide the conditions under which faculty may flourish in their teaching,
service, and research.
•Manage financial resources.
•Advise and supervise the academic and professional development of a diverse
student population.
•Evaluate faculty, staff, and departmental services.
•Foster a collegial and professional environment.
•Mentor and encourage the professional growth and development of faculty
within the Unit
•Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
•Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Mathematics
Education.
•The candidate must also present evidence of excellence in teaching and
advising undergraduate and graduate students.
•The successful candidate must have the ability to foster a collegial environment that encourages professionalism and teamwork;
•Must possess a record in scholarship, research, and grantsmanship.
•Be eligible for tenure at the rank of Associate or Full Professor.
•Other qualifications for this position include: (1) experience in curriculum
planning; (2) online delivery of instruction; (3) student mentoring; (4) thorough
understanding and ability to implement national accreditation standards.

Physical Demands:
