If you are interested in law enforcement and our judicial system and you enjoy working in a fast-paced, highly rewarding environment, we are looking for you.  The Victim Witness Coordinator will join the Victims Witness Unit which is comprised of a Chief and Victim Witness Coordinators who are responsible for guiding victims and witnesses through the criminal justice system.


LOCATION:  Upper Marlboro Courthouse - 14735 Main Street, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772

 

JOB DUTIES:  

 

The Legal Assistant will:

 

  • Explain the judicial process to crime victims and witnesses and answer any questions they may have.
  • Inform crime victims of the rights they have throughout the judicial process.
  • Provide updates to victims and witnesses regarding status of their case, upcoming court hearings and explain court outcomes.
  • Provide courtroom accompaniment and moral support for the bond docket.
  • Prepare and maintain case files as well as send out required contact letters.
  • Provide referrals for additional services as needed.
  • Schedule and attend trial preparation meeting between victims, witnesses and attorneys and assist with translation during meetings.
  • Update nightly recording with case status for the following day.
  • Maintain calendar, contact logs, and keep statistics for grant reporting purposes.
  • Provide assistance to assigned Assistant State’s Attorneys.
  • Act as a backup to other Victim/Witness Coordinators within the unit as needed.
  • Attend and participate in community outreach events as needed.
  • Additional duties as assigned by Unit Chief

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION FOR CANDIDATES:

Bachelor's Degree with major course work in criminal justice, social service, sociology, psychology, or other fields; plus, responsible work experience or an equivalent combination of education, and experience.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS FOR CANDIDATES:

  • Ability to work effectively as a team member.
  • Ability to take the initiative, use good judgment, and exercise independent decision-making.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and analytical skills.
  • Have working knowledge of the State's Attorney's Office

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Candidates must pass a background investigation.
