Job Description: Paraeducator –
Special Education (Contracted through a School District)

Silver Lining ABA is an organization serving individuals with Autism and other mental health diagnoses across the lifespan. We are a small organization driven by our values and an enduring desire to help our clients reach their goals and be as successful as possible. We put our clients first and are dedicated to making meaningful changes in their lives. This means we work together as a team, collaborating to problem solve, supporting one another in all that we do, and remaining current with research guiding best practices in our field.

Position Overview/Role Description
Silver Lining ABA–trained paraeducators provide Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)–based support services to students within the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). Paraeducators implement Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA)–based interventions and behavioral protocols with assigned student(s) under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) and/or licensed Mental Health Professional (MHP), in collaboration with school district personnel.
Paraeducators may work one-to-one with students or in small-group formats and support students across educational environments, including classrooms, transitions, general education settings, and other school routines. Responsibilities may include assisting with Individualized Education Program (IEP) intervention implementation, behavioral data collection, and reinforcement and intervention procedures aligned with ABA best practices as trained by Silver Lining ABA.
Paraeducators may also support student and staff coaching related to ABA programming protocols, reinforcement systems, and behavior intervention strategies, based on their training and supervisory guidance. All services are delivered within the scope of ABA support and in coordination with district staff.
Crisis Intervention & Physical Management
Paraeducators may only implement physical crisis interventions if:
The school district utilizes QBS Safety-Care® protocols, which align with Silver Lining ABA’s approved training system, and

The paraeducator has completed and maintains current certification in Safety-Care®.
If the school district utilizes a different physical management or crisis intervention system, the district is responsible for providing training to the paraeducator if it wishes for the paraeducator to implement those procedures. Paraeducators will not implement physical interventions outside of their approved training and authorization.
Role Boundaries & Scope of Responsibility
Paraeducators are present to support school district staff, including general education teachers, special education teachers, related service providers (e.g., speech, occupational therapy), and administrators. This role does not replace district employees and does not assume responsibility for duties assigned to licensed or credentialed school staff.
Paraeducators are not responsible for:
Lesson planning or direct instructional design
Teaching or primary classroom instruction
IEP development, authorship, or decision-making
Related service provision (e.g., speech, OT, counseling)
Acting as the sole staff responsible for a classroom or instructional program
All responsibilities are carried out under appropriate supervision and within the paraeducator’s defined scope of practice.

Schedule
Paraeducators will follow the school calendar and daily schedule of the assigned school district.
Work hours will align with the typical school day and are based on hours mutually agreed upon between the school district and Silver Lining ABA, as determined by student and program needs.
Some positions may include partial-day assignments (e.g., morning, midday, or specific instructional support blocks).
Paraeducator duties, work schedules, and responsibilities during teacher in-service days, Act 80 days, school holidays, weather-related closures, and other non-student days will be determined by the agreed-upon contingencies between the school district and Silver Lining ABA. These days may include training, professional development, supervision, preparation, or may be non-working days, depending on contractual agreements.
