As a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) in Urgent Care, you play an essential role in helping patients receive timely, compassionate care when they need it most. From welcoming and triaging patients to supporting providers during exams and procedures, you help keep the clinic running smoothly in a fast-paced environment. Your clinical skills, attention to detail, and ability to connect with patients make a meaningful difference in their experience and help ensure they receive safe, efficient, high-quality care.

Responsibilities

  • Assist physicians and advanced practice providers during patient exams, treatments, and procedures
  • Room patients, obtain and document patient histories, vital signs, and other pertinent clinical information in the electronic health record (EHR)
  • Perform point-of-care testing, specimen collection, and other clinical tasks within scope of practice
  • Administer medications, immunizations, and treatments per scope of licensure
  • Prepare patients for exams and procedures and provide support throughout their visit
  • Educate patients on medications, treatments, follow-up care, and other health-related needs
  • Coordinate referrals, follow-up care, and communication with patients as needed
  • Assist with maintaining patient flow and an efficient clinic experience in a fast-paced Urgent Care setting
  • Ensure a clean, safe, and organized clinical environment
  • Work collaboratively with providers and the care team to deliver exceptional, patient-centered care

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Medical Assistants (Certificate, diploma, or Associate’s Degree) required.
  • Certified or Registered Medical Assistant through one of the following required:
    • National Healthcare Association
    • American Association of Medical Assistants
    • National Center for Competency Testing
    • National Certified Medical Assistant
    • National Association of Health Professionals
    • American Registry of Medical Assistants
    • American Allied Health
    • American Medical Technologists
  • Prior experience in a clinical or outpatient setting preferred
  • Familiarity with EPIC a plus!
  • Strong communication, organization, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced Urgent Care environment
  • For positions within UnityPoint Clinic, team members may be required to work at or to float to other locations to support optimized staffing
