This position is focused on design, development, test, and deployment of SEL automation, protection, and networking devices in the power grid for customized applications for a variety of Customers in the critical infrastructure industry. SEL devices prevent blackouts and make outages safer and shorter in duration. They use cutting-edge technologies and operate at speeds that enhance other pieces of the grid to perform in a safer, efficient, and faster manner.  As a Specialist / Engineer in Engineering Services, you will provide solutions and services that help our customers protect and control critical electrical infrastructure and power systems worldwide. 

As a Project Engineer or Specialist, a typical day might include the following:

  • Complete and implement work within agreed upon scope, schedule, and budget to a high level of quality and safety.
  • Train and assist customers with the creation, design configuration, validation, installation, commissioning and operation of automation and/or protection systems.
  • Assist in the identification, preparation, and presentation of successful proposals for SEL equipment, services, and systems.
  • Mentor and develop professional staff. May supervise, as necessary.

This job might be for you if:

  • B.S. / M.S in Electrical Engineering or relevant discipline.
  • 4+ years relevant application experience with electric power systems, industry practices and/or control systems.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of electric power system protection and control, integration and/or automation and communications applications.
  • Demonstrated proven knowledge of electric power system design, studies, information and communication technology and protective relay applications.
  • Willing to travel both domestically and internationally a minimum of 25% based on focus area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with electric power transmission, distribution, and/or generation systems.
  • Understanding of substation equipment and electrical switchgear.
  • Working knowledge of electric power systems, protection, relaying applications, integration, and automation applications.
  • Experience being a part of project teams.
  • Experience with SEL products and technologies, e.g., RTACs, SEL relays, etc.

Focus Area = Automation

Experience with two or more of the following skills:

  • Control system or monitoring system design, development, and testing for power systems, microgrids and/or renewable systems.
  • Human-Machine Interface (HMI) systems – One or more of RTAC HMI, Copa-Data Zenon, Wonderware, etc.  
  • Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems.
  • Basic understanding of networking principles including the basics of routing, switching, IP address subnetting, firewall configuration/operation and network design.
  • Design of cabinets, racks, or panels to integrate equipment – AutoCAD, MicroStation or Bluebeam.
  • Understand, use, and deploy industry standard protocols – One or more of Modbus, DNP3, IEC-61850, protocol analyzers.
  • IEC-61131-3 or any other object-oriented programming principles.
  • Experience with industrial and/or power system integration, automation, industrial controls, and/or PLCs.
  • Experience performing system checkout, factory acceptance testing, and commissioning.

Pay Range:

We anticipate filling this position as a Project Engineer II $115,300 - $170,400. We are open to reviewing additional candidates with more or less experience and the pay range may differ if filled at a different level. Our pay ranges are determined by job, responsibility, and location. We base our starting pay offer and title on location and job-related factors such as candidate experience, training, knowledge, and skills.
