Job Summary

Our catechists enrich the spiritual development of our students by leading them to unique encounters with Christ. They do this in a variety of ways: by what they say and do in the classroom, as well as by their words and actions as they participate in parish life and in the larger community. Catechists work with the parents of our students to help the children in their care see how God works in the Church, in the world, and in their lives.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Basic understanding of Catholic teaching, Scripture, Catholic Tradition, and a desire to learn more
  • Be able to communicate with children in age-appropriate ways

Job Requirements

  • Prepare for each class through the creation or review of appropriate lesson plans
  • Comply with the Archdiocesan learning standards published for the grade-level you are assigned to teach
  • Be in the classroom and ready to teach at least 15 minutes before the start of class
  • Incorporate a variety of techniques (visual, verbal, musical, physical) to address the different learning styles of the students
  • Return the classroom to its original condition at the end of each class
  • Submit attendance and student progress reports (report cards) on a timely basis
  • Communicate with the Coordinator of Religious Education regarding any classroom issue in a timely manner

 

Time Commitment

  • 90 minutes on Monday or Tuesday (includes class prep, teaching, cleanup time) on scheduled PSR class days
  • Attend in service meeting called by the Coordinator of Religious Education.
  • These meetings will take place on either Monday or Tuesday from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on weeks when no PSR classes are scheduled. There are two meetings per year, one in August and another in January.
