The welding adjunct faculty member will be responsible for creating a learning environment that assists students in reaching their goals; and for providing effective instruction and assessment within the framework of common syllabi provided by the School, including classroom and lab environments.

Major Responsibilities:

PROGRAM OPERATION:

  • Perform all instructional duties necessary to teach and facilitate student learning in assigned classes.

  • Provide syllabus appropriate to course(s) being taught to students and follows syllabus content and requirements.

  • Maintain student attendance and grading records according to College policy as outlined in the Adjunct Handbook.

  • Submit requested information within established timelines.

STUDENTS:

  • Be available to students outside scheduled class time to answer questions or provide assistance.

  • Deal with student concerns and, if necessary, consult with program coordinator to resolve issues.

INSTRUCTION:

  • Meet all scheduled classes of contracted course(s).

  • Use technology such as Canvas, PowerPoint, etc. as appropriate.

  • In event of emergency absence, notifies program/department chair.

  • Conduct all activities with an appreciation and respect for diversity of people, styles, and views.

  • Promote same as an integral part of one's work.

Pay: $47.35 per classroom contact hour.

Schedule: Based on course schedule and availability. Typically contracts are for 8-week periods and require 6-8 hours per week. Instructors may teach more than one course based on availability and course schedule.

Requirements:

A welding instructor may meet the standard through one of seven routes:

1. Instructor has all of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree directly related to the course's discipline

  • Any specialized certifications required for the class being taught

  • Two years of directly related work experience

2. Instructor has all of the following:

  • Bachelor's degree in any discipline

  • Any specialized certifications required for the class being taught

  • Five years of directly related work experience

3. Instructor has all of the following:

  • Associate's Degree directly related to the course's discipline

  • Any specialized certifications required for the class being taught

  • Three years of directly related work experience

4. Instructor has all of the following:

  • Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship Training Journeyman’s card, held for at least 2 years

  • Any specialized certifications required for the class being taught

5. Instructor has all of the following:

  • Certified Welding Inspector credential

  • Any specialized certifications required for the class being taught

  • Two years of directly related work experience

6. Instructor has all of the following:

  • Any specialized certifications required for the class being taught

  • Five years of directly related work experience

7. Instructor has all of the following:

  • Workplace Specialist License granted by the IDOE in Welding Technology

Selected candidate for employment will be subject to pre-employment background checks, including criminal history check, and any offer of employment will be contingent upon that outcome.
