Overview

We are hiring a Mohs Histotechnician / Mohs Technician to join our growing dermatology surgery team in the Tampa Bay area. This is a full-time Mohs surgery histotech position supporting our Academic Alliance in Dermatology practice across multiple clinic locations. Candidates must have direct Mohs laboratory experience, including frozen section tissue processing, embedding, cutting, and staining.

Schedule: Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM (off every other Monday)

This position supports multiple dermatology locations throughout the Tampa Bay market, including:

  • Tampa (Webb Road)
  • South Tampa (Kennedy Blvd)
  • Countryside / Pinellas County
  • Hudson

Mileage reimbursement provided at $0.67 per mile for required travel between assigned clinic locations.

Responsibilities

Primary Duties:

  • Prepare frozen tissue sections for microscopic examination using a Cryostat in support of Mohs micrographic surgery procedures
  • Perform embedding, cutting, staining, and processing of Mohs tissue specimens with accuracy and efficiency
  • Maintain, clean, troubleshoot, and ensure proper function of all Mohs laboratory equipment, instruments, and accessories
  • Maintain laboratory cleanliness, organization, stocking, and inventory management
  • Ensure compliance with CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and laboratory safety standards
  • Support quality control processes to ensure accurate and timely slide preparation for Mohs surgery cases
  • Collaborate closely with the Mohs surgeon, surgical medical assistants, and clinical team to maintain efficient patient flow
  • Travel between assigned Tampa Bay Mohs surgery locations as needed
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the lab manager or practice leadership

  • Minimum 2 years of recent hands-on Mohs Histotechnician / Mohs Technician experience required
  • Direct experience with frozen section tissue processing, grossing, embedding, cutting, and staining for Mohs micrographic surgery cases
  • Ability to independently process 12-14 Mohs cases per day while maintaining approximately 20-minute turnaround time from tissue receipt to provider microscopic review
  • Strong experience adapting to and cutting varying tissue sizes, depths, and specimen complexity
  • Ability to accurately triage, prioritize, and manage multiple incoming Mohs specimens simultaneously in a fast-paced laboratory environment
  • Strong understanding of Mohs lab workflow, specimen handling, quality control, and laboratory safety protocols
  • Knowledge of CLIA, OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control standards
  • Exceptional attention to detail with strong focus on specimen accuracy, slide quality, and patient safety
  • Ability to work efficiently under pressure without compromising quality or turnaround times
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills
  • Dependable with strong attendance and reliability
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a surgical team
  • Quick learner with strong adaptability in a high-volume Mohs surgery setting
  • Positive, professional, team-oriented attitude

Licensure/Certifications/Education

Education / Certification

  • Direct Mohs Histotechnician / Mohs frozen section experience required
  • HT (ASCP) certification required
  • Associate degree in Laboratory Science, Histotechnology, Medical Laboratory Technology, or related field preferred
  • Candidates with equivalent laboratory education and strong direct Mohs experience will be considered
