Position Summary:

The Youth Care Worker supports the daily care, safety, and well-being of children residing in a residential group home, with an average age of young adolescence. This role works closely with House Parents and onsite staff to provide trauma-informed, nurturing, and structured care. The Youth Care Worker helps create a safe and supportive environment that promotes healthy development, emotional regulation, and positive social interactions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist House Parents and other residential staff in the supervision, guidance, and care of youth.
  • Ensure the safety and security of all residents at all times, including during recreational, educational, therapeutic, and transportation activities.
  • Transport youth safely to and from school, appointments, activities, or other destinations, following all safety protocols and traffic regulations.
  • Implement trauma-informed care practices, recognizing and responding to the effects of trauma on youth behavior and emotional needs.
  • Apply de-escalation techniques to safely manage challenging behaviors or crisis situations, using appropriate interventions to maintain a safe environment.
  • Support youth in developing coping skills, self-regulation, and positive social interactions.
  • Monitor youth behavior, document observations, and report concerns or incidents to supervising staff.
  • Assist with daily routines, including meal times, hygiene, recreational activities, and school participation.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and care planning to support individualized youth needs.
  • Model positive behavior and maintain professional boundaries with all youth.
  • Respond calmly and appropriately to crises, behavioral challenges, or emergencies, following established protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or training in human services, psychology, social work, or related field preferred.
  • Experience working with children or adolescents, especially in residential or care settings, strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles, child development, and behavior management techniques, including de-escalation strategies.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
  • Strong communication, observation, and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to pass Level 2 background check and drug screening.
  • Ability to maintain a safe and structured environment while demonstrating patience and empathy.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to engage in physical activities with youth, including lifting, bending, and active supervision during recreational activities.
  • Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.

Work Environment:

  • Residential group home setting with direct interaction with children and other care staff.
  • Team-oriented, fast-paced, and dynamic environment requiring flexibility and adaptability.
