We are seeking a Surface Machinist for our operations near Brookwood, Alabama. We expect this person to be a role model for the "Warrior Way" and uphold the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and teamwork.

About the Role: 

 

As aSurface Machinist, you willperform various tasks related to operating and maintaining machinery to produce precision metal parts and instruments. The Surface Machinistwill work closely with supervisors and other team members to maintain a safe work environment while adhering to company policies and procedures. 

 

Responsibilities: 

 

  • Operating various equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, CNC machines, torches and welders of various types 

  • Working in confined spaces and heights potentially more than 100’ from the ground (with harness) 

  • Cleaning, shoveling, and utilizing high pressure hose to maintain a safe work area. 

  • Will be required to operate various hand tools and machinery. 

  • Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations. 

  • Preserves a safe and clean work environment by keeping trash picked up and practicing good housekeeping standards in work areas. 

  • May be required to operate other equipment on a temporary basis. 

  • Other duties that may be assigned by supervisor. 

Who You are: 

 

  • Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. 

  • Must be a certified Alabama Hoist Operator 

  • Must pass hydraulic and welding abilities test administered by WMC training center 

  • Must be able to read and interpret blueprints and precision measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers and various gauges to ensure parts meet specifications. 

  • Maintain good punctuality and attendance. 

  • Ability to work safely and effectively in amining environment. 

  • Must be able to communicate effectively with other team members and supervisors. 

  • Good problem-solving skills and attention to detail 

  • Good organizational, time management and multitasking skills. 

 

 

Environment and Safety 

 

  • Ensure adherence to State, Federal and Company workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control. 

  • Maintain a high level of Safety performance through effective communication, monitoring, and revision of standard work procedures. 

  • Identify and report safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage at the workplace. 

  • Attend and participatein all scheduled safety meetings and training. 

  • Ensure adherence to environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements. 

 

 

Physical Requirements Mining Operations: 

 

  • Must be able to stand for long periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces.   

  • Must be able to sit for up to 4 hours to operate equipment or vehicles.   

  • Must be able to walk for up to 4 hours at a time.   

  • Will need to walk through different areas of the work area with different amounts of clearance and headroom.   

  • Walking ability will be based on SCSR emergency evacuation plan required and approved by MSHA. 

  • Must be able to wear the required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.   

  • Must be able to bend or stoop for a full work period because of varying work heights.   

  • Must be able to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders. 

  • Must be able to do repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have quick reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand to eye coordination. 

  • Must be able to lift 25 to 50 pounds frequently and occasionally lift items weighing up to 75 pounds. 

  • Must be able to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
