DETAILS OF POSITION
Location: Vandenberg Space Force Base / Full-time: Monday - Friday / Hours: 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM / Starting Rate: $20.71 per hour
PURPOSE OF POSITION
Beacon, formerly VTC Enterprises/LOVARC has been supporting people with developmental disabilities since 1962. Part of fulfilling our mission includes providing individuals with community experiences to develop and promote their independence.
Under the direction of the Director of Grounds Maintenance, the Vandenberg Space Force Base (VSFB) Grounds Worker is responsible for a wide variety of unskilled and semi-skilled grounds maintenance work at areas throughout the assigned military base.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities
- Complete grounds maintenance requirements as specified in the base contract.
- Perform routine cleaning, preventative maintenance and minor repair tasks on tools and equipment as required.
- Operate hand tools and power tools commonly utilized in grounds maintenance operations safely.
- Perform plant bed maintenance which includes fertilizing, weeding, mulching and policing.                               Â
- Prune trees up to 6 feet in height from ground level and including cleanup and debris removal.
- Prune shrubs, hedges and vines including cleanup and debris removal.
- Trim and edge around walks, flower beds and walls including cleanup and debris removal.
- Turf rejuvenation to include dethatching, aerating, seeding and fertilizing. Safely operate riding lawn mowers to maintain grounds in a manner that meets or exceed government quality specifications.
Qualifications
- No minimum education requirements. Â
- Knowledge of Grounds Maintenance Tools;Â Must demonstrate the proficient use the following tools: backpack blower, hedge trimmer and line trimmer.Â
- Ability to remember and follow verbal directions. Â
- Able to understand written or oral equipment operation procedures.Â
- Able to read and interpret written or oral equipment operation procedures in English. Â
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with coworkers and management; Ability to work as part of a team.
- Perform effectively in environments with frequent workload changes and competing demands.Â
- Ability to perform repetitive work according to set procedures.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out basic written or oral instructions.Â
- Ability to think through the consequences of a decision prior to making it.Â
- Ability to recognize an emergency situation and take appropriate action.
Requirements
- Must be able to meet and maintain requirements to obtain entrance onto Vandenberg Space Force Base.
- Valid driver’s license with an insurable record.
- An insured vehicle available for use during employment.
- Must be willing and able to work up to 8 hours per shift. Â
- Must be able to work in varying weather conditions, shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as required.Â
