MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

ï‚· Provides supervision, training, assessment, and leadership for Residential Staff.

ï‚· Ensures accurate accountability of students that are present for duty on center.

ï‚· Provides counseling and guidance to students in assigned dorm on attitude, behavior and inter-personal relationships with others.

ï‚· Monitors student activity in the dorm and ensure appropriate student behavior.

ï‚· Directs students and may assist during maintenance and clean-up of dorms and dorm areas.

ï‚· Provides students with training in independent living and leadership skills.

ï‚· Reinforces positive behaviors and holds students accountable for negative behaviors.

ï‚· Maintains all shift logs, enters data into the Center Information System and Student Folders and reports any unusual or critical incidents to superiors.

ï‚· Supports Dorm Supervisor, Counselor and other team members in providing effective case management services to students on their assigned caseloads.

ï‚· Acts as a member of a team with other Independent Living Advisors assigned to a dormitory by completing assigned shift duties and communicating all shift specific information appropriately.

ï‚· Acts as an advisor to Student Peer Court.

ï‚· Models appropriate behaviors, mentors students and monitors both positive and negative behaviors through interventions.

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

ï‚· Basic understanding of management practices; proven ability to lead and support a team

ï‚· Working knowledge of behavior management techniques

ï‚· Strong customer service skills; knowledge and understanding of the needs of disadvantaged youth

ï‚· Proven problem-solving and decision-making skills

 Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal 

ï‚· Ability to meet frequent deadlines and handle stressful, hectic situations without loss of efficiency and composure

 Proficient in the use of computer software such as MSWord, Excel and Outlook, etc. 

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

ï‚· 4 year degree including 15 hours of course work in social services or counseling fields.

EXPERIENCE:

ï‚· Residential experience in a group home or college dormitory setting. Experience in Job Corps preferred.

 Must possess a valid Driver’s License with an acceptable driving record.
